Yes, it's very common. At least I only follow the NFL. I know a lot of men who watch college football all day Saturday and pro football all day Sunday.

 

Also, when a guy says he's "watching football", it's typically with a group of other men who get together every week for years and years. And inviting a woman into a group like that is strictly verboten.
