Of course you're all over the place. I think it's one thing to be 22, independent, seeking fun and another to fully embrace the concept of "consent". You're coming around to that. My grandparents, by the way, got married when they were both 16 years old. However, they weren't into casual sex. They had been working (both of them) in a factory since the age of 12. My Papaw basically supported his Mom and little brothers since his dad was a drunk. So, my Papaw grew up fast and did not enjoy his childhood, nor did he have the time/ability to goof off like some teenagers of today do. My Mamaw came from a poor family and also did not enjoy her childhood or teenage years for as long as many girls today have the luxury of doing. They had committed sex at the age of 16, and I don't think that's bad. They were married for almost 50 years before my Mamaw died of cancer. They truly loved each other. Relationships are right when people are mature, and some young adults can reach maturity earlier than others. There are some "elderly" people who, interestingly enough, never reach maturity. As for casual sex, I believe there are too many risks for that. I hope you did not get her pregnant or give her any sexual disease.

If it happened to be 16 (which I've heard is the most common AoC around the world), 80% of the people on here getting all upset wouldn't even bother. The terms of the law have just made 18 kind of a socially standard, imaginary threshold of maturity in the U.S. If it were 16, pretty much the same attitude would be held toward that age. Any normal human, by age 17, like the girl in question, is sexually mature (in a physical, biological sense). Of course a 17 year old is significantly less mature mentally than someone older, and more prone to being taken advantage of, but that doesn't sound like that was the case at all here. Hypothetically take the law out of situation, just for kicks, imagine AoC is 16: She initiated the flirting & got what she wanted, to put it simply, and it's doesn't sound like some grim encounter that's gonna have damaged her self esteem. If she had ****ed a guy her own age, would it make any practical difference ? Do you think she'll look back, and feel particularly more damaged/used because she hooked up with someone a few years older and not her age ?? The OP comes across as a respectful, appreciative guy and it doesn't sound like he "took advantage" of her to me.
