MrCastle Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I know it's kind of weird but it's something I've been thinking about recently. How important is a man's hair when it comes to physical attractiveness? And I'm not talking hygiene, obviously we all want clean, flake free hair. But I mean style. Is that a big attraction? I'm not particularly stylish when it comes to my hairstyle. I've had the same hairstyle for most of my life. Just a short cut with no frills. I'm thinking about growing it a little and changing it up though, but I wonder how much of a difference it makes? Have you ever been physically attracted to a man in terms of just his face/body and were neutral on his hair or does a great head of hair play a role at all? What is your preference in hairstyle?
CarrieT Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Well-kept, clean, and dandruff-free is all I really care about. Other than that, I'm completely neutral. I've dated everything from bald to a giant ponytail down the back. Honestly - it was Mr. Ponytail that annoyed me the most. Not because of the length but just because he had so many split ends and it needed trimming. Any hairstyle as long as it suits one's face well and is not scruffy or un-managed. 2
jobaba Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) Might as well do it. It's a cheap and quick fix. I usually get my hair cut with a normal style and put fructis in it. Every now and then, I'll go into my favorite stylist with a more edgy style from a photo from a magazine and tell them to chop it up like in the photo. When I went out, I got compliments from my female friends. But no dates or anything. But it's the one thing us dudes can do. Gals can do hair, makeup, jewelry, a lot of stuff to make themselves more attractive. I remember some days when my ex had her hair done, I just wanted to jump her on the spot. Guys only have hair. So, yea, do it. It will also give you a little bit of a different persona if you get a cool cut. Any time I get constructive criticism on a fix that is cheap and quick, I'll do it. PS... If you do get a cool, edgy chop done, it will take some maintenance to keep it. 15 minutes in the mirror and a LOT of gel/paste, every time before you go out. Just to let you know. Right now what I have is something like this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NO2UOMMYKZ0/SIbHZfgiE8I/AAAAAAAAAnc/mQ_ewps1tNc/s1600/Men%2BShort%2BHair.jpg But I'm thinking of doing something like this? http://blog.newsok.com/gossip/files/2009/03/adam-levine.jpg I must admit one of the only things stopping me is laziness. I love how my showers are quick and I don't put anything on my hair at all. If I decide to grow it out, I'd have to manage it. Not that I find that feminine but it's just something I'm not used to doing. I'm used to getting up, showering, and leaving my house. Not blow drying, or gelling it, or combing it. I don't know.
It's Just Me Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 My personal take: 1. No mullets, mohawks or that weird braid down the back. 2. Short and clean-cut always worked for me. Dislike long hair/ponytails with a passion. That's my gig! 3. If you're balding, shave it down to the wood. Sexy! 3
Author MrCastle Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Jo you edited your post and included exactly what I was talking about.

I'm like that too. On my normal routine days, I'll just get out of the shower, comb my hair over and get in the car. But when I go out, I always put in at least a little gel. I think you should try it. Your 2nd link is broken, but I can tell it's Adam Levine. Pick a style you like and bring the photo to your stylist. After the cut, they will tell you exactly what you need to do to style it that same way before you go out again. It will take a rinsing out gel, and rewashing you hair, and regelling before you can get it like the stylist got it. Welcome to the world of the metrosexual man.
AmeliePoulain Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 It really depends on the guy and how they can pull it off. If they're very confident, any hairstyle can look good. Some guys look good with long grunge hair while others look better clean cut. My boyfriend now is the first man I've dated that is bald but he looks great with no hair as he has a handsome face. However, there are a few haircuts that won't budge like longer hair than mine, fro-hawks, or gel hair. I don't like any products, I like it natural. I once dated a guy that used to put toothpaste in his hair. One rule for me is that he washes his hair everyday. One of my pet peeves is when I can smell oil buildup on their scalp. 1
Author MrCastle Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 So if you had a borderline/neutral person. Someone you weren't actively unattracted to or attracted to, and they had a great hairstyle, could that push them over the edge to attractiveness?
Author MrCastle Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 However, there are a few haircuts that won't budge like longer hair than mine, fro-hawks, or gel hair. Well, I would assume most great hairstyles are great because of gels or other products people put in it. Very few people have kick ass natural don't have to do anything to it hair.
It's Just Me Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I'm used to getting up, showering, and leaving my house. Not blow drying, or gelling it, or combing it. I don't know. I would kill for that. Hair is SUCH a pain. I am THIS CLOSE to going to a boy cut, but my BF loves my long tresses. I plan to just start trimming everything just a bit shorter, every time, just to see how it goes. I'm 47 and have had long hair all my life, pretty much. Just tired of it. But yeah... hair is a huge deal all around. Lots of preferences out there.

All that work and little to no payoff. Part of me does want to do it for myself as I think a new hairstyle would accent my look pretty well. I'm by most accounts, a hipster. Not a questionably skinny jeans wearing hipster, but a hipster nonetheless. My hair is far from that style though. But another part of me is like, well, if women don't really care one way or the other, I don't know if it's worth it.
AmeliePoulain Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I have yet to date anyone that put products in their hair other than shampoo/conditioner except for the toothpaste guy but that was in my teens. They might not have model suave hair but their messy or lack of style hair looks great on them. I like guys that are natural who don't wear cologne or high maintenance with hair. A guy's natural smell and hair is extremely sexy to me. I also don't use products in my hair other than to wash it. 1

But yeah... hair is a huge deal all around. Lots of preferences out there. Well that's the whole thing. Sometimes girls in school come in without their hair done because they're running late or they're in I don't give a **** mode, and it totally changes the dynamic. A few semesters ago, a girl walked in with this really beautiful straight hair, and I was swooning. The next day she walked in late with this frizzy, just got out of the shower look and it was a total turn off. I lost attraction for her because of it. But of course guys are obsessed with looks and hair is very important to men. I was just wondering where it ranked for women
jobaba Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 So if you had a borderline/neutral person. Someone you weren't actively unattracted to or attracted to, and they had a great hairstyle, could that push them over the edge to attractiveness? It's just like everything else that I've asked about on LS in my endless threads on "How to Attract Women?" You'll get some yeses and you'll get some nos. To wit ... I've started threads on cologne, clothes, being a musician, etc. Some women think that men who dress well is a TOTAL turn off. In other words, you cannot win with women. Just go with what you think is cool. It seems like you want to change it up, so do it. 2

runner Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 interesting responses here. i've had mine once to my mid-back, other times buzz cut short, and now it's just a bit past my shoulders, just long enough to tie up. of the three, my current length seems to be the easiest to care for. i get up in the morning, jump in the shower, lather it up (not even using conditioner half the time), towel dry, slap on my bike helmet and let it dry in the wind. in contrast, i feel like i have to 'do it up' so much more when it was shorter. ie, use product, have more frequent trims, etc. i hated it. oh and back to the OP, no complaints from the women. many of them actually love running their fingers through it
Author MrCastle Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 oh and back to the OP, no complaints from the women. many of them actually love running their fingers through it That's the other thing! When girls are, umm...riding the MrCastle express, they always put their hands on my head/run their fingers through my hair. But it's short so there's not really much to run through! I can't help but think they're wishing to grab a heap of full, thick hair in that situation

I can't help but think they're wishing to grab a heap of full, thick hair in that situation as some of the responses indicate here, not all women are into the look. i'm certain there have been women on the sidewalk who caught a glance at me on my bike thinking, 'eww, dirty hippy alert ' but you bring up a good point. women love running their fingers through my head, regardless of my length. perhaps you can grow it out just a bit for that effect; not necessariy down to your shoulders.

I don't follow most hipster conventions (I listen to Def Leppard for chrissake) but I tend towards bohemian clothes styles over preppy and jocky. I wear some vintage clothes but I don't go crazy with it. http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/airborne-toxic-event.jpeg Hipster styles are more in the clothing than hair. Hair is usually unkept style. But you can get a stylist to do some cool bangs type stuff. Just pick a style you think is cool. And don't give a sh@t what anybody else says. BTW ... anybody who calls themselves a hipster is not really a hipster, so you're safe.
threebyfate Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Good hygiene and cut. The rest is up to the man and what suits not only his face but his lifestyle. Must admit I'm not fond of long hair on men.
MercuryMorrison1 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I'm 24 and my hairstyle tends to swing with however I'm feeling. For several years I did the shoulder length curly locks look ala ''Jim Morrison'' style, the girls seemed to enjoy that look as they usually commented on how good that hair style looked on me. Right now my hair is toned down a little. Its cut a little shorter and its ''wavy'' but has a little less curl to it. I've simply got it cut like this right now just for the ease of maintence, but it doesn't seem to have affected the way any girls view me. It really just comes down to the man himself I think. I've got a friend whome is 23 years old and he's been going bald since we graduated highschool, and just recently he started cutting his hair down to a #2 buzz cut and he's very successful with the ladies. So ultamatly ''for most people'' I think it just boils down to how well you carry yourself. 1
coolheadal Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 24 hope your hair still grows double that age. Most loose their hair then start to shave it all off so it looks cool. Mine keeps growing and growing.. Won't stop! Cut it short in 2 months it full again.. I shouldn't worry much about it.. Girls like gray in the hair or longer hair. Really can't make them all happy. What about the hair on the chest or hairy guy.. Still Mr Clean or Mr. Hairy doesn't have much a chance..
SpiralOut Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I'm not a big fan of long hair on men. And if a guy is balding, he looks better if he just shaves it all off. There are some men who can carry off the shaved head look really well.
USMCHokie Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Putting effort into your hair is a lot like putting effort into anything else in your life. It can't hurt.
