Little background:

I've been going through a break-up, and it's had me down for some time.

For the first time in a long time though, I met someone that made me completely forget about my ex. It was an incredibly cute girl that walked into my store yesterday. I did something rather unlike me and ended up getting her cell phone number from our system (I wasn't working with her) after she left. I text her that night and here's what happens (please note that some things may seem jumbled, it's because we were talking via text all night)

Me:"hey this is totally inappropriate. And could potentially lose my job for this, lol. But you stopped by *********** today and I thought you were really cute"

Her: Hahaha hi I promise you won't lose your job I won't tell your boss

Me: Haha awesome. I was the tall guy in customer care, with the bad hair day, in case you didn't know who was being a total creep right now ;P Hows your night going?

Her: Haha well I didn't notice your bad hair dont worry. It's good just hanging at home what about you

Me: Same, really long day at work, so im just going to hang with friends for casual drinks

Me: I know this is rather forward, but maybe we could grab coffe/ drinks some time?

Her: Ya I hear ya. I'm being dragged out I think but I dont want to leave my couch.

Me: Believe it or not, im in the same situation. I'd much rather stay home and continue watching Netflix

Her: Haha what are you watching on netflix?

Her: Okay this is a weird answer to your question but life is a little crazy right now haha umm can we talk in a week or so

Her: wait do you have a name haha

Me: believe me, I understand how that is, not a problem :) and as for netflix im catching up on breaking bad, such a good show.

Her: so I hear, gotta start watching that.

Me: My name is *******, I'd ask you for your name but shamefully.... I already know it. Have to say it's quite pretty.

Her: *******? How do you pronouce it/where is it from

Her: Thank you

Me: *********, apparently named after ******* (sorry trying to hide identity)

Her: interesting, first ******* i've ever met

Me: yeah I never met a **** either lol. So, what brings you to NYC?

Her: I went to ****** and just graduated in may, you?

me: very nice, i was born in Brooklyn NY, and currently going to ******** for my CPA. Major in anything interesting?

her: Nice where in bk?

Her: Jounalism and History- mildly interesting

Me: oo very interesting, my second major was philosophy.

Her: That's a good one, very interesting but I dont know how practical..

Her: heh sorry

Me: Hahaha yeah, I know, its just my passion. Im doing accounting for practicality.

Her: where'd you study philosophy?

Me: ******* haha, I double majoed> completed philosphy early, but i need 150 credits for the CPA - fun stuff.

Her: Ohhh I see I see

Her: do you stil llive in BK"?

Me: Yep, end up getting dragged out?

Her: Not yet... But I have to go out cause my best friend is moving and it's her last weekend. So I definitely have to

Me: Yeah, I still live in brooklyn, but im actually moving to the east village in November (hopefully). Right now i live right in-between parksloope and sunset park

Me: heh well I hope you have fun, and I hope we can hang out some time :)

Her: I have family around park slope, its nice

Her: Thank you, you tooo :) I'll let you know

***** later that night******

Me: word to the wise, meat packing district is terribad

Her: Hahaha Truth

***** Next day******

Okay, Here I'm at work again. And I'm just doing routine stuff... and part of my job is to call customers and confirm things with them from the previous day orders. I ended up calling her and didn't realize until half way through the voicemail and totally panicked... to the point where i ended the voicemail with "And...." then hung up out of sheer embarrassment of how terrible I was doing.

After that, about two hours later I text her

Me: "So I left you what was probably the most embarrassing voicemail, ever. hahaha I didn't realize i was calling you until half way in."

***Several hours later****

Her: Haha it's chill

Me : end up having fun that night?

Her: yeah it was ok

Me: guess thats a no :)

*** end convo****

So, at this point, I'm worried I messed things up, especially with that goofy voice mail... I'm generally really good with talking to women, and I don't want her to think that i'm some desperate n00b... it's just... Damn, I'm really crushing on her. So, I come here for advice, what should be my next move?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to give me some insight

1) How could you mess anything up with a girl you know nothing beyond except that she's incredibly physically attractive?

2) Getting a woman's phone # off a source and calling her without permission is a no-no. You are lucky she was really chill about it. I have done this before, MANY years ago. It's a little creepy. For all she knows, you have her address too. And if she was that cute, you'd better believe she's used to this type of male attention. Again, she was cool about it. You could have lost your job over that.

3) At this point, might as well see it through for the h@ll of it and ask her out again. Who knows, she might appreciate your courage. But I wouldn't pull that stunt again if I were you.

She has your number, let her initiate the contact next time.

Otherwise, she might feel like you're stalking her.

And in future, just ask the girl out on the spot ... don't text girls by getting their number out of your store's system. That's creepy ...

And, yes, you could lose your job ...

and feel like a fool.

Yeah - trust me, i know it was stupid.

That's why I was being very cautious with what I said when first texting her.

I couldn't ask her out on the spot because... well... that would have been even more unprofessional, especially in front of my two female co-workers.

The only reason I texted her is because we made eye-contact. Several times. I would catch her looking at me, and vice-versa. The signs were there.

Still, no excuse, and i've never done this before, and probably never will again.

You guys are both right though, she barely knows me, I barely know her.

I'm just wondering if I should go for a hail mary, or keep it cool.

thoughts?

I was actually thinking about bringing up the fact that I sent her a text through work related means, and that i've never done anything like that before. Wonder if she would bite.

If a woman is physically attracted, there's always a chance, no matter how creepy the approach and no matter how awkward the voicemail.

If you thought she was checking you out, see it through. But back off at the first no.

When I was 20 or 21, there was this cute girl in one of my college tutoring groups that I had a crush on. I got her name off of the tutoring roster and called her one night while drunk and asked her out. She turned me down on the spot. Later on that year, I was at a bar with a buddy, and she was our waitress. She recognized me and gave me a smile. My buddy was like, "Hey, our waitress is cute." That was so embarrassing. Lol. :lmao:

Some of us have been there before. But I wouldn't do it again. Good luck.
