moonbunny001 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 My boyfriend (25) and I (20) have been dating close to a year now and everything is wonderful between us; we even moved into an apartment together. However, his family is harboring hate towards me because he followed me out of Texas which his entire family is located (he ensured me it's what he wanted) and they also prefer his previous girlfriend to me. We meet in college while he was getting divorced and both decided not to date early on. But, when he went away for a month with something due to the Army we lost contact. He then found a girl within his platoon and started dating her; this lasted 5 months and his family adored her!!! She had a job, brains, and was willing to stay in Texas. When my boyfriend started to connect with me again we decided to brake up with our significant others (I was in a previous relationship for 3 years). It was difficult for his family but even now almost 8 months later they can't accept me and it's starting to take it's toll on us. What can I do?
january2011 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Be polite during all exchanges, especially when it is on their turf. Ensure that he stands up for you and your relationship when they criticise and bad-mouth you. Be consistent and faithful to him and ask for the same in return. Focus on strengthening the bond that you have with him. If they reach out to you, accept it in good faith unless they prove untrustworthy and unreliable. Over time, they will see that you are here to stay. 1
