Hi Everyone!

Any suggestions on things to do/talk about via skype in an LDR when conversations start to get a bit boring and routine?

A bit of background: Lately conversations with my SO have been a bit dull. We talk about what's going on in our lives and any upcoming trips or events, but that is about it. He has been going through a lot personally with his family and some of the things that used to excite him don't as much. He also doesn't like to talk about his personal problems on the internet or phone. He is much more open in person and we're hoping to see each other again in October, which will be great for our relationship. But my concern is for the present, so that we can have a future together. :)

In the past, we both loved to use skype for intimacy, but his sex drive hasn't been the same since the personal problems began so we don't really do that anymore. We live in different countries so occasionally we'll watch big events like soccer or the olympics together while on Skype, but that's about it. Neither of us are gamers. We both love to travel and like movies, but have never watched a movie together using skype. I know that these are some popular things people do in LDRs but that is about where my knowledge ends.

So does anyone have any creative ideas or suggestions to get out of this rut? Thank you in advance!!

Talk about current events. Send each other links to funny videos, songs and interesting websites. Share photos and stories about your travels. Watch a movie on the same night and come back and talk about it. If your computers can take it, click on a movie at the same time on your website of choice (YouTube, Netflix, etc) but just have one soundtrack playing while you are both on Skype.

Leave Skype running in the background while you are doing other things - try not to freak out that the other person seems to be "ignoring" you.

when my husband went overseas to work (we were in an LDR at the time) I used to write chatty letters filling him in on gossip about the people we knew, I'd clip out the police blotter from the small town paper I worked at, I'd send him cartoons or other funny observations because we have a similar sense of humor. He'd tell me about some of the stuff he was doing there in his spare time (going to the outdoor markets and looking at all the stuff, scuba diving in the Red Sea, etc), so we had an idea of what life was like where the other person was.

now, he visits his brother in Nevada twice a year for about two weeks, so we talk about the new stuff that's there or funny stuff he's noticed, and I let him know what's going on here.

sometimes, it's not about the kind of conversation, though, but the fact that you can hear each other's voices and not feel so far away
