Gloria25 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Ok, not sure if this has ever happened to anyone else. But have you ever contacted someone for the first time on an online dating site and their response is to block your profile or change something on their profile? I, just like anyone else dating online have gotten contact from people that I was not interested in, but I just did not respond or told them I wasn't interested. I never jumped to an extreme like blocking my profile from them or putting something negative on my profile (well, unless they began to incessantly contact me).
Pompom Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Honestly, since I don't feel like responding to those I find uninteresting, blocking would be my first reaction if I werent too lazy to search for that option. It's nothing personal. Just ignoring them often does the trick, but sometimes it doesn't and I don't feel like being put under the pressure, however minimal, of dealing with people I don't want to deal with, even if it's just registering their interaction and deleting it.

Yes, both of those things have happened to me.
Author Gloria25 Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Yes, both of those things have happened to me. Can you please elaborate? What did they change on their profile? Do you think it had anything to do with you?
oaks Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Can you please elaborate? What did they change on their profile? Do you think it had anything to do with you? With one woman she was younger than me by about 10 years (I don't remember exactly) but she had an age-range listed that included my age. After I emailed her (and didn't get a reply) I noticed that she had changed the age range to exclude my age. With another woman she changed her profile to add something like "must live within 5 miles of Islington", when I'm about 20 miles away. (Islington is a specific area within London, and previously she just listed her location as "London" and her preference for meeting people "near" her.) I might not have been the only person to have sent them messages that prompted them to change things, but it seems to make sense that they tightened up their requirements once they saw the kind of people who would message them... but then again I don't claim to be able to read any woman's mind!
oaks Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Oh, and I've had people block me as well. I don't send follow-up messages if I don't get a response, but when I get polite rejection messages (things like "Thanks for your kind message but I feel that we aren't a match. Good luck with your search.") I tend to reply (with something like "Thanks for letting me know. Good luck yourself."). Sometimes I notice that I've been blocked when I try to send that.

Doesn't really sound like it was you personally but that they realized they had those settings different and adjusted them to more what they want. Don't worry about it, IMO.

FitChick Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 With one woman she was younger than me by about 10 years (I don't remember exactly) but she had an age-range listed that included my age. After I emailed her (and didn't get a reply) I noticed that she had changed the age range to exclude my age. I had a similar situation in that I changed my age range preference from 47 to 63 to 50-60 just because I was getting either really young or really old guys. A guy who I know is 48 changed his age to 50 on his profile and then contacted me. Who makes themselves older? And when I took down my profile he took his down as well. Odd.
