suge Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 So my now ex and I were together for 5 years, we have had a wonderful relationship and friendship and the one constant thing that has always been a struggle is my child. A little background I had a child with a woman 6 years ago and after a year of her and I trying to make it work we called it quits. Soon after I began dating my now ex, I had moved on by this point and was ready and open for a relationship. She was coming out of a period in her life where she was trying to figure out what she wanted to do. We have been each others rocks and both truly do still love and support each other. She has made it clear since the start that being a step mom is not something that she necessarily wants but was willing to try. It really was the only thing we really fought about over the 5 years as we began to try to merge our lives completely (we even talked about getting married and moving in together). During this time I emotionally supported her going back to school and getting into a PhD program. She helped support me graduating college, finding a career, moving out on my own, and becoming the man I am today. Over the last year before she started her PhD program she realized it wasn't the life she wanted, the career wasn't the path that she wanted, and the reason she pursued it so hard was so we could stay together and make it work. Soon after dropping out of the PhD program we had a fight about what it meant for us, and landed us in a limbo pseudo break up. She went on a 2 week trip where we had very LC and when she came back she broke up with me because she realized it wasn't a life that she wanted. I am hurt and lost but I also want her to be happy, I would never want someone to settle for a life they may regret, especially her. I truly do support her following her dreams even though those dreams mean her and I will not be together. We both want to be friends once this settles, we are both hurt because we have lost a person we love and a future we both at one point wanted. She is leaving the state soon to pursue her dreams and I want her to know I fully support her doing this. I would like nothing more then for us to remain happy for each other and eventually able to communicate as we both move on with our lives. How can I do this?
Author suge Posted August 27, 2012 Author Posted August 27, 2012 I found out from a friend that even though she wants to be friends as well, and was the one that dumped me, she wants a month of nc to grief.
