Think about it this way.

You're 22.

Relationship since 18.

They've walked out on you (and you haven't cheated or abused them).

Clinginess & Neediness are natural reactions as things begin to fall apart.

YOU'RE LUCKY!

You could have experienced this at 27, 37 or 47. Imagine if that person did this to you in 10 years time. How much more would you have missed out on?!

We settle for what is familiar, yeah they're great but obviously not as great as you thought. You're about to have experiences, a break up is one. Your going to develop from this experience and improve. They think they're great and needn't change. So in their next relationship chances are they'll end up in the same position or settle for something which offers the same qualities as you did.

It's better to settle for something your sure is great and will last at 30 than try your best to hold together all you know to be a relationship at 20.

Move on, it's hard, but it's all you can do. If they come back that's the only way you can get them into your life again. No begging. Make an apology for your faults if you've identified them and walk away.

Be positive. Read. Learn. Improve.

Thank you, this is an inspiration for lots of people on LS who are young and inexperienced, and think that breaking up means the end of their lives. We think about how that person is one of a kind and the only one for us, but there is still a lot to experience in life, no one person is worthy of bringing that much pain to us. Your post will help me in my dark times i'm sure of that. It will remind me that life is worth living no matter what, and that working too hard on a relationship all by yourself and not receiving any effort from them is not the way to go. A relationship must bring happiness, not suffering. Again, thanks for your post, it did and it will help me in the future.

I am one of the young inexperienced people. I am 20 and was with my ex since I was 15 engaged to be married and all that. We have been split up for two months and in glad we have as I missed out on a lot of things but now I've grow. So much as a person and know what I want and need in life for myself rather then as persons needing, oviously I'm not over my ex but I'm on the right path ATM so by me reading this has actually helped make that little bit more sense out of things !
