Author Titanwolf Posted August 27, 2012 Author Posted August 27, 2012 (edited) This is NOT true. My son has traveled with my from the time he was 6 months old. He's an expert in dealing with road trips, airplanes, and hotels. Sure when they are in school, you are limited as to WHEN you can travel (if you want to take them with you), but kids do not prevent you from traveling. Not that I am trying to convince anyone to have kids - just that travel isn't a reason not to. I guess when I think of kids, the 1st thing that springs to mind is this helpless little baby that requires 24-7 love and attention. Or a child that's constantly in school or requires some form of looking after. It is wrong of me to assume that my child (sends chills down my spine saying that ) would be a complete hindrance, as I do plan to travel A LOT. Of course, nothing (Aside from death) is certain in life and if the time arrives when I conceive a child with my GF, I'll have to raise that child to love exploring the world and braving the elements, amongst other things. Thanks for the input btw. 6 months old is impressive. I don't even know him/her but I have a great deal of respect for them already Edited August 27, 2012 by Titanwolf
pteromom Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 AHA ... you are one of those 'loved' ppl who bring infants on the airplane. And am also one of those prepared people who had a variety of bottles, binkies, and toys to keep him busy. Even on a 6 hour flight to Hawaii, he didn't cry. 1

LOL. It's all in your attitude. And of course, in how you raise your child. My son can eat at a restaurant, stay at a hotel, wait in a line, sit on a plane, walk to tourist areas, etc. without causing any disruption or whining or crying. He's been raised with travel as part of his life, and he actually brings a lot of depth to the experience, because a young boy sees everything in such a different way that we adults do. Now, if your idea of travel is going and drinking all over the world and closing down bars in all the major cities in the world, then yes, a child would be a hindrance. LOL 2

pink_sugar Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 These are some interesting perspectives as I always thought that I'd need to get my fill of travel before children, but there are also ways to travel with children. Of course if I want to do whatever I want like stay out late and party on vacation, that is another story. But I have also never been into drinking, clubbing or partying. I would also of course, plan to travel with my kids in effort to see the world and share my love of travel.
pteromom Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Of course if I want to do whatever I want like stay out late and party on vacation, that is another story. There are solutions to that too. There are all-inclusive resorts that include babysitting and kids clubs... it is possible to party on vacation with children. Where there's a will, there is always a way! 2
pink_sugar Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Definitely true! A friend of mine went to Kauai with his girlfriend and almost 2 year old daughter and it looked like they had a great time. They go almost every year. 2
