Today me and my friend sat down at work and discussed about how me and my new friend would get to the movies. So she went over to him and asked him. Then she walked over and told me that he wanted my phone number. So I put down the number and she went to give it to him. Then she came back and said his friend would call Sunday. His friend is calling for him cause he doesnt know much English.

I just hope this is going to work out.Im hoping for that call on Sunday.Im hoping he feels the same way as I do.Im hoping that the Spanish and English will draw us two together like magnets.Im hoping that he will want to teach me Spanish. My friend at work also told me,he wants me to learn Spanish. My friend is Spanish so she does teach me some words sometimes.

Im worried that I did the wrong thing cause my friend has to tell him in Spanish, what im saying in English. She knows Spanish.I wish I did so it would make it easier for me to talk to him.I do have a computer Spanish program that I haved practiced with.I know some words.I just dont understand how to talk Spanish in sentences yet.I guess I will just have to practice at it.I wish I could learn it fast.

Im feeling really funny about doing the asking. He seems kind of shy.Im just hoping he is happy that I asked.

Why don't you teach him english? It's possible he's pining after the same lessons you are :)

where there's a will, there's a way, patty-cakes. in my job, I come into contact with a lot of native Spanish speakers who have a very limited English vocabulary, and my Spanish is faulty at best! however, I've noticed that a lot of times, if I try, people are happy simply because I'm willing to meet them half way, and somehow, we're able to exchange information in the end. sometimes it takes a lot of repeating, but in the end, it all works out.

so don't give up on learning even just basic conversational skills because every little bit helps. and, as Dyer points out, maybe this guy is wanting to work on his English, too. if it doesn't make you feel too strange, seriously consider carrying along a Spanish-English dictionary with you on your date. it's a pretty good way to communicate: you look up the word in English and both of you read over the word in Spanish, or vice versa. that's saved me a lot of times, too.

if you're serious about learning the language, look into conversational Spanish classes being offered by a local college, churches or even community center. cost varies from class to class, but it's a good investment.

have fun on your date!

There's also a show on PBS called "Destinos - An Introduction To Spanish". The county community college here uses it as a Distance Learning course.

It starts running again here on September 13th, but check with your local station on dates/times. You might want to tape the episodes and practice at your own pace when you have free time. (Especially if the episode times are like here - they start at 6:00 AM! Like I said, though, check with the local affiliate on that one.)

Good luck!!!
