Pyro Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Heh... I thought of going as Jesus. I mean, why not... I suffer for everyone else's screwups... I was a zombie Jesus last year. I did win third place at the bar for scariest costume and I was sent home from work for my costume.
Anela Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I suppose if I lose a few pounds, I could dress up as Morticia Addams. Or just let my hair do what it does best, and go as .
Pyro Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I suppose if I lose a few pounds, I could dress up as Morticia Addams. Or just let my hair do what it does best, and go as Thing. A giant hand costume?
Anela Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 *Or just let my hair do what it does best, and go as Cousin Itt. (I tried to edit.)
Anela Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 A giant hand costume? That, too. I had to google to remember Cousin Itt.
Pyro Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 *Or just let my hair do what it does best, and go as Cousin Itt. (I tried to edit.) sorry I know what you meant though. 1
kaylan Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Im going as Japanese comedy character Hard Gay. DOMO HADDO GEI DESU....OK!!!!!! *pelvic thrusts multiple times* Either that or black Superman/Clark Kent. The costume would be when Clark is ripping his shirt open with his outfit underneath.
RedRobin Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) I'll have to ask my gay friends what I should wear. That was a hit last year... Even the drag queens stopped to comment on me when I was visiting a friend. Although... I think I was off on my target market... ha ha. My natural hair is super long now (down to my waist). I've always wanted to go as Lady Godiva.... I could pass out chocolate. heeere 'little' boy http://www.google.com/imgres?q=lady+godiva&um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&rls=en&biw=1366&bih=625&tbm=isch&tbnid=kj-y7JNhx511LM:&imgrefurl=http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/kimberly-clark/42188/&docid=GDhCCUBrSwpQUM&imgurl=http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/kimberly-clark/42188/images/42188-hi-Lady_Godiva.jpg&w=2700&h=2022&ei=7CQ2UMjtAee46QHinoD4DQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=109&vpy=313&dur=5819&hovh=194&hovw=260&tx=124&ty=120&sig=109805610976061563421&page=3&tbnh=126&tbnw=158&start=55&ndsp=29&ved=1t:429,r:22,s:55 (That's Whoopi Goldberg... she cracks me up...) Disenchantedly Yours Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Speaking of witch! LOL Yikes IRC. It's kind of funny in an obvious way. But it also kind of seems a little harsh. If Halloween has become an excuse for women to dress slutty, it's also become and excuse to throw derogatory names at women like slut and whore. Still shaming women while men make jokes about how awesome it is for them. Kind of not cool if you ask me. To be honest, there isn't much options out there for women to not dress slutty because that is all that's really out there now. Unless you come up with your own costume and not something store bought.
Disenchantedly Yours Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I would love to live in a town that really gets into the whole thing, but I hate seeing girls not getting to just be girls. they have to be eye candy instead. I know. It's sad. Boys costume are 1/10th as sexualized. But underaged girls are. And I feel for them. They just want to do what is popular and look pretty. Unfortunetly, they are told what is pretty is to dress like mini pornstars. One day you should come to my neck of th woods Anela and we will grab some coffee and watch the kids trick or treating. This one house puts an entire grave yard in their front yard and this other drops this painted stone sheet across the entire front of their house and sets up a fake draw bridge while a guy stands there as a knight. 2

RedRobin Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I dunno.. maybe it is time women embrace the 's' word like black people embraced the 'n' word awhile back. I'm not black, but I love comedians like Whoopi Goldberg and Dave Chapelle for turning racism on it's head... TBH, I'm getting a bit past the age where Lady Godiva would be 'cool'... I could go totally over the top, don a long grey wig, and be Lady Godiva... the later years... ha ha Was also thinking of dressing as a 'chore'... Since so many people tell me I'm one.. Hmmm... could be fun. Guys asking me "What are you?" Me: "A Chore. Date me and you'll see why"

I don't think "embracing" the "n" word has turned racism on it's head. And no matter how much "embracing" you do for certain words, the initial connotation will never be whiped out. There will always be that negative back-drop. It actually kind of makes me sad when I hear African-American's use the "n" word.

Date me and you'll see why" They didn't turn the N' word around... they gave it legs and brought it into a new century while keeping all the racist connotations it had 100 years ago. It would have been better to let it die and become a period place word like "groovy" and other words that have passed from our lexicon. Chapelle did a great job of mocking race and racism. Slut will be around forever. If it goes away another word will rise to take it's place because... there is a need for it.

Untouchable_Fire Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 And what is the need for it? It describes a behavior type. As long as the the behavior exists people will have a need to describe it.
Feelsgoodman Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Maybe it's just me but it's a bit trite and creepy when you see a holiday that use to be about imagination and fun and candy be turned into yet another market where girls feel they need to be "sexy" in. It's just you (and your feminist/neo-puritanical aversion to all things sexual). Halloween was originally a pagan festival of the dead. The cute, Disney version of Halloween is a pretty recent invention.

I see the 's' word is being used for both men and women these days... Funny... I see the "N" word being used for both blacks and whites too. ... but Halloween is for fun! Back on topic... Maybe I'll go in black face as Whoopi doing Lady Godiva...

I always wonder why people say "N word" instead of nigger. Sure, it's offensive to call someone a nigger, but if you're just talking about word itself, such as discussing the appropriateness of its use in the 21st century, why not just say "funny...I see Nigger being used for both blacks and whites". Why refer to it as the "N word"? Are people nowadays really that mortified of the gods of political correctness?

For the same reason some people use the word 'penis' and 'vagina' instead of other words. Using the 'n' word sounds trashy, IMHO. It has nothing to do with being politically correct.

I love when people act like feminism is a four letter word. Man, if you only knew how neo-puritanical I really was. It would flip your lid. (My eyes are getting quite the refreshing work out right now.) see Anela's response for further clarification. Halloween SHOULD be Disney for kids. Instead, you got little girls dressing up like pornstar fantasies because those are the costumes marketed to them. 1

Why refer to it as the "N word"? Are people nowadays really that mortified of the gods of political correctness? Gosh, could it be that people are culturally aware enough to know that the "N word" was a particularly offensive and degenerative word used to assault an entire race of people to keep them ruled under the thumb of the privileged pasties? And that perhaps, just perhaps, they don't want to over familiarize themselves with that level of cultural degradation, social annihilation and pestilent tyranny against a group of people by letting themselves become accumulated to socially disingenuous terms? Now see I could say something like, "He's a douchebag", because the word "douchebag" isn't connected to generations of bondage that forced people into slavery. So naturally, without the weight of any kind of real trial or historical context, "douchebag" is a pretty tame term even if it means, "he who embodies idociy at it's highest." You can't take words like the "n-word" and attempt to obliterate generations of socially accepted abasement against a group of people just because of a stupid backlash on political correctness. Douchebag...now that's a good word. 1

Oh, so now they need a privileged pasty like yourself to tell them what they want and don't want to "over familiarize" themselves with? And who appointed you as their spokesperson? For your information, "they" use the word nigger (or "nigga", as they pronounce it) routinely to refer to each other. Maybe you should save big words like "social annihilation" and "pestilent tyranny" for your postdoctoral thesis in feminist theory and leave "them" to their own devices. The days of the white man's burden (or, in your case, the white woman's burden) are long behind us.
