I hate to even go here, but I'm having hard day today. Really trying to move on still. It's been 6 months since my ex broke up with me and he is still with same girl. Just curious if there are any stories of couples who got back after the dumper dated someone else. I'm sure there are and some are short periods of time and some are years. I'm so lonely and its so hard to meet anyone I'm interested in. Guys have been interested but I just wasn't interested in any of them. I've never not dated someone for this long of a time. I'm trying to find myself, but it's just so stinking hard.

Yes. He dumped me for what seemed like another girl. He broke up with said girl after about ten months. Got back in touch with me after about thirteen.

If you were to believe what he says - he broke up with her because he missed me. He was scared and ran, now knows what he wants, is back for good, etc.

I can't honestly say that I do believe what he says. Regardless...for better or worse...we have gotten back together just recently.

However...they often don't come back. Most time when they do, it's for the wrong reasons or doomed to repeat whatever went wrong the first time. And I spent my time working on my own happiness and had long passed hoping for him to come back by the time it happened.

I suggest you work on doing the same.

I know of at least 3 girls (ages 19-24) who got back together with a long-term ex after a LONG time had passed, 1 year+ for all of them with both the gf and bf dating other people. It happens! I do know that none of them "waited" for their ex to come back, they all moved on with their lives and dated other people.

Hearing this is not going to help you OP. Moving on is key right now. Don't worry about reconciliation unless it happens.

My boyfriend and I broke up a year and half ago after living together for five years. He initiated the break up. He started dating his ex during our split. We hooked back up but he wanted to be "free" and see both of us which I totally refused. We stayed broke up for a few months, met up again and this time, he met a new woman and told me he didn't love me anymore and for me to move on. The first time we split up, I took it hard. I tried to go out and get my life together, but it was slow and didn't see to be working. But the last time, when he told me he didn't love me, I moved on. I accepted the fact it was over and joined some local groups, started going out with my friends and kept as busy as possible. Well....four months later, he contacts me and admits how much he loves me, wants to be with me. But this time, things were different with me. I let him know this would be the very last time chance I give him and I was still living my life the way I had been. I am happy with my life and I found out I can live without him. The good news is...we are still together after four months and get along better than we ever did. I still have my place and he has his, and I like it this way. There is always hope in a relationship. The key is to be happy with yourself, do your own thing, and accept each other for who you are. We are 60 years old, but love has no age limit. I have seen many couples get back together after a long period of separation. If it is meant to be...it will happen when it is supposed to happen.

This thing about if it's meant to be...does it mean we should let fate determine what lies ahead for us? Or should we at least intervene or give it a shot rather than sitting back and waiting for it to happen?

My ex and I broke up a year ago. He dated a girl for 8 months. We hadn't spoken since the break up and about a month ago he got in contact. We aren't back together and I'm not sure if we ever will be but I can see possibilities there. We are becoming really good friends again and I'm am really greatful to have him back in my life in some capacity. Maybe we were just meant to be really great friends? I dunno.

But keep your head up. I was in your shoes a year ago. Absolutely devastated and it lasted for 9 months. Things will improve. Everyday is one step further to where you need to be. Believe that.
