Why doesn't she text me back?

A few days ago I went to a house-party with some friends and I ended up coming across a girl who I've had a thing for for quite some time. We ended up chatting, laughing and having a good time. Later on, one of her friends pulls me aside and says "Stop being so shy" and "I know her, as long as you make your move, you're in there". I do my thing, we talked, held hands the rest of the day, even smooched a little before the night ended...

 

Ever since then we've been texting each other but she always seems to take a long time to respond (like 30 mins) or we'll get about 5 messages across before she unexpectedly just stops for the day. I understand people have lives and I have no intentions of sounding like a needy little B%^&* who's desperately anticipating her next text but at the same time I feel like I could easily just ignore the signs and follow her pace. But I don't want to end up hearing her friends say "You didn't do enough"

 

So I'm kinda stuck on what to do. Is she playing hard-to-get or does she just lack interest? I'm on the verge of just blatantly asking her upfront what the deal is but I don't want to ruin it.

Don't bring it up to her.

 

She stops after 5 messages? Then don't give her that chance. You stop after 4 messages.

 

Let's see how she responds to that.

She IS texting back, it's just not within the time frame you'd prefer (IE: 30 minutes). What if she's in the shower, or on the toilet, or in a meeting, or taking a nap? But if it bothers you, do say something.

Have you called her? Have you asked her out yet? She's probably wondering why you haven't made an effort to see her again instead of just idle text chat.
