pavlo_von_sexron Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Hi there! I'm cooking a breakfast for a girl in a few days. Do you have any good recipes I could try? Something fancy but easy might do the job. Thanks!
rocketman122 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 get some good french bread. not some crap. the bread makes all the difference. learn how to make a proper omelet. put some brie inside if you like. put it in the french bread. you can also make some french toast with some of the sliced bread. some maple syrup..not aunt yomomma crap. some cantaloupe/grapes/watermelon pieces on the side. or fruit salad. maybe some olives for zing. mimosa for a drink will bring it up a level-BAM DONE!! you can go fancier but this is simple and classy. some espresso after and youre done. 2
oaks Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Smoked salmon scrambled eggs. With toast. And coffee. 2
Forever Learning Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Oh yes, fruit, nuts, yum. Smoked salmon with cream cheese on Ritz crackers, yum. Omelettes, yum. French toast, yum. Scrambled eggs with cilantro salsa or chipolte salsa, yum. Smoked sausage, with jalapeno or garlic. Orange slices cut and twisted for garnishment, along with parsley or flowers. Fresh squeezed orange juice. Good bread, maybe fresh muffins, blueberry or orange/ cranberry. Cheese. Brie. Yum. Warmed/melted in the microwave with a bit of jelly on top, jalapeno jelly for a bit of spice/zest. I do have a question though about Brie cheese, I had some at my mother's house yesterday. Is it acceptable to eat the rind? Or not? Always wondered (as I chowed down on the rind..... kind of mixed feelings on that. No rind next time around). 1

veggirl Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 quiche or a fritatta will be easier to make than an omelette if you are not experienced! (I eat the rind off brie too) eta: HOMEFRIES!! mmmm. 1
Els Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 What everyone said. When my bf did this for me, I think the most romantic aspect of it was that he brought it to me in bed! Seriously, the 'breakfast in bed' part always gets big bonus points. The food was pretty conventional - toast, eggs, etc, but him bringing it to me and then snuggling in beside me as I ate was priceless. 1

Hot darn, I like that. So I will see you this Sunday then? OP, I make pretty good french toast, that I usually get compliments on, here is my recipe: challah bread 4 brown eggs 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup butter milk freshly grated nutmeg (your call, usually a few grates over teh bowl does the job) cinnamon (your call or roughly 1/2-1 tablespoon) Dash of ginger spice Mimosa's is also a really great idea, along with a bowl of fruit. You can also go to foodnetwork. com for ideas I have also made this before and it's REALLY good: Souffled Pumpkin Pancake It's a little different from the average breakfast stuff and great for pumpkin lovers. 1
8mia8 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Ask her for some ideas and make a variation of that. That way it's something she actually likes, not what other people like. 1
2.50 a gallon Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 In my bachelor days I had a fancy gold plated bed tray, with smoked glass for breakfast in bed. I think I paid $50 for it 40 years ago, and it was one of the best investments I ever made. As for suggestions of what to serve, I have done the quiche and omlette route with great success. Surprising another great success was cold pizza Toast? Instead of jelly, butter and cover with brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon. Want to try something most have never thought of? How about Cheerios or Corn Flakes ala mode. Instead of adding milk, add a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream on top of fresh chopped strawberrys or a tablespoon of sweet canned peach slices. Also, if it is Sunday morning, don't forget the Sunday funnies. 1
yongyong Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 It really depends on whether it's after morning sex or not.....
mysteryscape Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 We arranged that I would pick her up well before sunrise. We shopped at a local market for food. I brought fuel -- wood or charcoal, I don't remember. Drove to a local kind of exurban natural park and watched the sunrise. Then I built the fire, we cooked breakfast together. And spent the whole day together, I took her home in the evening. She said it was the best day of her life, and said so long after. I will never forget it. 3
2sure Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Depends what you do the night before. Ice water, coffee, Motrin and Sex without conversation would make me melt. 2

God I bet that WAS beautiful, especially in the pacific northwest. Thanks for sharing that story. 1
mysteryscape Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 It was actually in the Midwest -- where the sunrises are often spectacular. It was many years ago. I was just shy of 20. Thinking about it, I'm amazed that I dreamed up this wonderful plan for this day. We probably planned it partly together. I'm not sure I would have later. It really was like a dream for both of us. Sadly, she is now departed. I remembered all this with complete vividness when I learned of her passing. I'm happy if this little story gives some inspiration to someone somewhere. 1
