If you're going to prove something scientifically, you have to define what it is you're proving. I repeat. What are the criteria for a jerk?

Why is George Clooney a jerk? And how does the study know those traits are what attracted the women to him?

The folly of the typical "nice guy" is that he isn't actually a nice guy. Which makes it hard to distinguish between them, and the real nice guys who do just fine with women - and get labelled as jerks in the process. Because they attract lots of women so hey, they just MUST be jerks . A wide myriad of men attract women in my observations, just like there are a varied assortment of men who don't. Being a jerk or a nice guy isn't much of a measurement of what attracts women, when we are looking at deeper dynamics at play than just jerk = attractive, nice = unattractive. Maybe I give women too much credit in general, but in real life I can't say that the majority have proven the gist of your theory to me, and neither have the "jerks".

His humanitarian work for Haiti, Dafur, etc are very moral. James Bond is also not immoral. He he has a strong code of ethics and dedication to his country. So by your definition of a jerk, your "scientific" study proves that women are not attracted to jerks.

One thing I do know for certain is that women do not like jerks... not if they are short, ugly, or broke ones! I think there is a fundamental difference on this site between the people who believe in relationships and the ones who just want to score. There is so much jealousy from the guys who weren't born tall/good looking. It reminds me of folks who don't have money hating people who do, only because they don't. I sense that even if a good looking guy is actually a nice guy, certain people will label him a jerk because he's getting something that they are not getting. Fantastic post!, i am jealous of guys who are born good looking ( i don´t care that much about height ). But i won't label them jerks for it. I have a really good looking friend who sometimes uses women for sex (worse looking than him: Easy lay) but he is a top guy. i wouldn't call him a jerk.

Half of those things you can do without being a jerk so attributing them to being a jerk is a reach, the other half is quite simply unethical and is in the realm of being a jerk without actually being very attractive behaviors except to a subset of immature women who respond to those things to their chagrin. Even if it works, I wouldn't do it. Not only do I KNOW it's not the only way that works, but I wouldn't like to deal with women who respond to these tactics as a package. 1

My theory is that some very insecure men need to think that its a "scientifically proven fact" that ALL women like jerks, and there are a sly group of charlatans at the ready to cash in on this any way that they can. Meanwhile, how many of the women and girls on this forum right now are currently involved with a man who's a real jerk, and like it that way? Anyone? Not I. How about every woman list all the men they have dated right now. How many were jerks? If they were all nice.. why are you not still with them? If they were all jerks... why did you date them? I'll wait... Some people aren't compatible over the long term. Neither side has to be a jerk.
