Romance unfortunately has a bad name given by years of Hallmark cards and 'forced' holidays. BUT even the cheesiest card or sappy candlelight dinner can have true romance if the intent is genuine and not just to impress or follow some societal norm.

One of the most romantic nights of my life was in a sleeping bag watching the Perseids from a clearing in Jasper National park.

What's 'romantic' to me is when a man acts on something I said or did in an unconscious moment in a caring and tender way... that shows he was really listening.

... and vice versa...

It is always the little things. I don't remember grand gestures ever having much of an impact on me... mostly because they seem so scripted and cliche. Not personal.

I'm grateful for the effort... but it is still the above that really gets me.

Best way a man can show me romance is with physical stuff.:p Other than that, anything that shows he was thinking about me is romantic to me. For example if he goes to grocery store and buys what I love to eat but he doesn't care for. If he tried to find a solution for an issue that i have without even asking me or even downloading my favorite type of porn that he doesn't even like.

Well I just took my board exam this Saturday and it was a nightmare. Yet this was one of the most fun weekends I have had all summer because my boyfriend out of nowhere did all these wonderful things to make sure I had a great time before we started school today.

First of all I called him when I got out of the exam to tell him how horrible it was and he was at that very moment arriving at my favorite cup cake shop buying cup cakes to surprise me. I decided to meet him there, we went to my house I changed my clothes, we went to my aunt and uncle who I am very close to house to say hi and talk to them and then he drove me 1.5 hours to a vineyard because a group of our friends had planned a day trip and were already there. It was beautiful I had so much fun with my boy and my friends that it made the horrible test seem far away.

After, we ended up staying at his parents house that was half an hour from the vineyard and I slept in his room while he slept downstairs in the couch. I felt even this was romantic how I got to sleep in his old room with all the pictures of when he was a little kid.

In the morning we did touristy things that I had wanted to do for a long time in his home town and then we drove back to where I live (and where he lives also during the school year) and we had lunch with my whole family.

I felt loved and cherished. I think he really wanted me to enjoy myself but the truth is that we both ended up having so much fun. it was definitely the most romance I have had in my life in a loooooooong time
