Best of luck to you guys. Given the circumstances of the break-up, and that you two are both apparently seeing each other, I think it's a very sweet idea. Still, I might broach the break-up with a conversation again: maybe just emphasize that what's most important to you is being with somebody you love, and that having children is secondary - and not even necessary. It is very possible for two people who want kids, but don't have them, to still lead very fulfilling and happy lives.

 

The others are right that at the end of the day, she feels it's best just not to deprive you of the chance to someday have kids - and there is nothing more you can do about that.

 

I was so happy you said you wouldn't do it at the wedding. I kid you not, I have heard of people doing exactly that. I can't think of anything more tacky and hurtful to the couple actually getting married.

 

And please put some thought into your proposal. My proposal was a letdown (sad thing is, I proposed to him first). Not that you have to, you know, go rent a plane or otherwise put on a big display for a few hundred dollars, but a nice dinner out of the ordinary is a good start. Think about what SHE would like (as well as what you want, of course).

 

It's kind of hurtful when you feel like your boyfriend just slopped something together really quickly, shrugged his shoulders and said, "Here you go!" I'm over it, but hey, if I can help some other woman get a great proposal, then all the better.
