AnotherRound Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I do a lot of reading, all types of subjects, and fiction and non-fiction. I do a lot of looking things up on the internet - sometimes for work, sometimes just out of curiosity, and sometimes bc I need information (like when to transplant gladiolas? lol). I also have 2 very large dogs that need exercise. We play a lot of ball, take some walks, and my ACD mix does agility in the backyard on a course that I made for her. She's super smart and we bond with that. I go out to dinner with friends a lot, love to dance, and we often have bonfires - esp this time of year. We do a lot of day trips to semi-local attractions - lots of wineries in this area. I also quilt and make clothes (although I'm not that good at clothes yet - mostly skirts and pajama pants so far, easy stuff). The quilting is a lot of fun and I've made 4 all together so far, working on 2 others right now. One for myself and one for a friend's grandbaby. And I do have a pretty awesome dollhouse that I work on - still in building stages on some things, and decorating stage on others. Last year I actually got all of the electrical wiring done in it. And there's always yard work and house work. Home improvement stuff, and creating and keeping flower beds and landscaping. Come to think of it... I wish I had less hobbies or more time.
CarrieT Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I make jewelry (professionally - my work is in galleries all over the country) I cook (did so professionally - went to cooking school and the whole nine yards) Food-and-wine writer (sort of gave that up with the rise of the blogger, 'cuz they are willing to write for free.) Submarine movies. Film Noir movies. Costume-drama movies. Almost any old movie (pre-1960). History. Currently = British history (especially the Wars of the Roses), WWI, and spy stuff. Art. I see every museum that comes to town and plan my vacations around cities with exceptional exhibits. Music. I'm a season ticket holder to the opera and symphony, but greatly enjoy avant garde performances, World music, and hot jazz. Shakespeare. I read him, I watch him, I often dream in Shakespearean vernacular. Kinky sex. Been exploring BDSM for thirty years, on-and-off... 3

On completely unrelated note, even though he was gay, I've had an inexplicable crush on Anton Walbrook since I saw him in Gaslight for years.

Els Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) - Reading, both fiction and non. Fantasy, sci-fi, random encyclopedia articles, tech, classics, philosophy, you name it. One day, when I can afford it, I will have a walk-in library of my own. - Writing - have been slacking a little on this one. I used to have pieces published in magazines or writer's collections online, but good writing, in my case, at least, seems to come when I can afford to wrap myself up completely in my own world, to live and breathe what my characters do. That hasn't been very conducive to other RL pursuits, so I have mostly stopped over the years. - Gaming. Mostly RPGs, both text and graphical, some RTS, some arcade/fighter games. Some card/tabletop games, and several classic board games. Used to take part in competitive gaming in my college days. - Coding, a newfound love. Someday, I will be as good as the inspirational geeks whose footsteps I profess to follow in. - The simple things in life. Taking a walk through the park or the woods or the beach, stopping at a cafe for cake and coffee, smelling the flowers by a countryside path. I try to take a little time each day to relax, engage all my senses, and simply enjoy being. It's an amazing feeling. - Travelling. I would do much more of this if I could afford it, and hope to be able to do so in the future. So many wonders in the world that I have yet to see with my own eyes, so many cultures that I have yet to experience, and so little time... - Music, movies, food, and all that. Not terribly interesting, so I won't elaborate, but I enjoy a good season of The Big Bang Theory or House as much as anyone else. Edited October 5, 2012 by Elswyth 1

He is my idea of dark, swarthy and mysterious and makes me watch The Red Shoes over and over... Don't care if he is gay. With my rather diverse interests, you can see why/how it has been difficult for me to find a compatible guy which is why I feel incredibly lucky right now. After 40-some years, I'm dating a guy whose interests closely match mine and have a few that expand beyond it; he's a Space Geek (met every guy who walked on the moon), knows as much about WWII as I do about WWI, sings in a Russian male choir, and speaks nine languages. We complement each other quite well... 1

We complement each other quite well... Oh Anton Walbrook was simply fascinating to watch. The Red Shoes' cinematography was a mercurial character on its own and although Moira Shearer was lovely, all I remember about that movie was Anton's magnetic Faustian quality and his dark brooding. He was also quite fascinating in The Queen of Spades. He really plays dark, magnetic obsessives quite well. We should do a thread on old movies. It is so interesting to see an example of a cultured, renaissance power couple. You are exceedingly lucky as well as he to have someone that you can TALK to--I mean really talk about fascinating subjects. I bet you are never bored.
skydiveaddict Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Any hobbies? Activities that help keep you in balance? Me: Guitar & Photograpy. Pretty amateur at both. Fun to play around with though. Yours? Skydiving....
CarrieT Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Any comment? To me, the painting is the most interesting. Everything else seems pretty middle-of-the-road and rather "male" (if you are trying to interest women, that is).
