StrangeBehaviors Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Sooooo many breakup stories here. NC, LC, Divorce, GIGs etc. Just wondering: Are there any long-term success stories where you're still together?
Pyro Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Two good friends of mine married when they were both 20 and just passed their 10 year anniversary.
quankanne Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 never, ever expected to get married. Not because I was against it or anything, it just wasn't on my horizon. I wanted to go to college, become a journalist and set the world on fire. I had a nebulous idea of kids, whether adopted or hatched, but a husband never figured into my plans ... met a guy in college and fell madly in love, thinking "he's The One." Unfortunately he couldn't keep his hoo-hoo in his pants OR be honest about already having a girlfriend, so I got dumped when she decided to leave her husband for him. Talk about being heart-broken. about that same time I met a guy who was staying at the hotel I worked at, and we dated very briefly. He went back to Florida, I stayed in Texas, where I was finishing up my degree. A couple of months before I was set to graduate, he was reassigned to my college town and we started dating again. I was ready for a monogamous relationship, his loyalties were divided as he let his ex-GF move into his hotel room while she was laying low from her boyfriend, who she claimed was trying to kill her. Dude broke my heart when I learned that he proposed and she said yes ... several weeks later, I learned she went back, and he started paying attention to me again. We dated, but I really didn't think of it as anything more than a dedicated hook-up! At the end of the summer, his contract ran out and he returned to Florida. we kept in touch (me more so than him), then he decided to chase a high-paying civil service job in Saudi Arabia right when the first Gulf War broke out, so we only saw each other twice a year. At the end of his two-year contract, he came to visit me in South Texas and said he'd renewed his contract for another two, and i asked where that left us. And he said, "oh, I still want to marry you." totally blew my mind, because like I said, marriage was never something I considered, even though I was in a dedicated relationship with him (okay, being honest here: I wanted him nearby so I could have sex on a regular basis, not every six months!). 20 years and six weeks ago, we eloped. though we've had our ups and downs and rough spots, I feel safe to call ours a success story 1
