I have a brown hoodie. I've had it for years. It's really comfortable. And not to toot my own horn, but I think I look good in it.

Once during our relationship my ex borrowed it. We all know what happens when a girlfriend borrows your hoodie... it becomes their hoodie. So she wore it. It never really bothered me that she's taken it for her own. It wasn't a habit of hers to annex my belongings, so I allowed this. Besides, I figured while she was wearing it she would be reminded of me.

This was the ex that brought me here to LS two years ago. The one who crushed me. The one I spent months trying to forget.

In the days after she broke up with me we exchanged our "stuff," and the last time I saw her she was wearing the stupid brown hoodie. MY hoodie. Fortunately she was gracious enough to take it off and hand it back to me, saying she'd been wearing it for days since the breakup. The breakup she wanted.

I took the brown hoodie home and packed it away. It still smelled like her. I wanted nothing to do with it. It was tainted.

Now it's two years later. In fact the date which lives in infamy is coming up. August 14th. It's been on my mind, but not excessively.

This week I'm spending volunteering at a summer camp for kids in need. Looking for things to bring with me, I went searching through drawers and boxes I've not been through in years. And what did I find? My brown hoodie!

I put it on. This was the first time it had been worn in two years. The last person to wear it was my ex. There was no trace of her scent on it anymore, just a musty basement smell. It was still comfortable though. And it still looked good on me. I packed it with my stuff for camp.

It's coming with me. I like it. It's mine again.

That is amazing! what a great story... and how funny how an object can come to symbolize so much....

We surround ourselves with so many objects that mean nothing to us, it's always interesting which one's end up carrying meaning...

My ex's fave sweatshirt, it will always be hers to me. I'd just give it to her and send it, if I knew she wouldn't throw it away. Some things just go together, and that thing looked better on her then it will ever me. It's in the closet waiting to see her again. It's been 1.5 years.
