MrNate 2.0 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 What criteria does one need to fill before being labeled as such? Do you think these names were developed as a form of social shaming ? spawned from envy? Or what exactly? I'd like to hear some thoughts on the matter. I've been quite curious.
pteromom Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Both are really about the prejudices and attitudes of the person calling another person the name, and not the person who is defined as "slut" or "player". 2

That makes sense to me. Because I see a few posters on here getting subtly shamed for things that really aren't bad at all.

You aren't just curious, because you did not form your question in a non bias way. You can't ask someone to taste your cooking and only give them "awesome" or "excellent" as the two choices they must use when describing it. Well, you can, but your likelyhood of a truthful answer is diminished. You originally asked "what makes one a player? ...slut", but your intent (and opinion you want others to confirm) is to ask "Is the name player/slut a social shaming tactic spawned from envy?" My answer to your intented question. No. The human language is structured in such a way that humans have to have a word to describe every phenomenon and action they observe. Regardless of which letters in the alphabet you decided to arrange, in this case player/slut... some word or set of words had to be coined to describe it. 1
D87 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 It is difficult to clearly define a "player" and a "slut", but when you see one, you just know
pteromom Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Player = the guy who gets all the women, leaving none for you. Slut = any girl who sleeps with everyone - except you. (not you, OP, but general you) 1

(not you, OP, but general you) I always said slut to women that were ashamed of what they have done sexually. I mean hell I can respect a woman that can keep it real and if she was promiscuous own that s**t

You have got to be the biggest hypocrite on the planet. My guess is that you call women 'sluts' when they sleep with you and don't come back for more...

I'm not a hypocrite if you actually look back at my post and READ I have mention this before. Women get up here and say slut is used to shame well if you are ashamed of what you have done you are in my eyes a slut. I can respect someone who is honest and can own up to what they have done in the past. How does that make me a hypocrite? I think you are getting angry with me. Its not becoming of a lady
manup Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 It's not rocket science. A slut is a female who has had sex with many partners, a player is a guy who has had sex with many females.
Imajerk17 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 That makes sense to me. Because I see a few posters on here getting subtly shamed for things that really aren't bad at all. Call me a slut, call me a player, call me a loser, call me a winner, it's OK, just don't call me late for dinner!

Kofybean Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 That's the problem with threads like these, no one makes a clear definition of the argument they want to discuss. I love ice cream. I love my job. I love my kids. All three different uses of the same word. You can't ask "why do people say they love things?" because you need to know what context the word was used. Tell us who called you a slut/player and what the context of the sentence was and then it can be discussed properly whether or not it was a shaming tactic out of jealousy or not. Otherwise, you guys just spout out a bunch of gender hate nonsense.

miss_jaclynrae Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Slut is such a young term. The last time I used it was back in highschool when I heard a girl slept around a lot. I don't use it anymore, not in a demeaning way at least. I will call my girlfriend a slut, out of love, or myself, but that is pretty much it and it is always done in a joking manner. I don't think anyone should be able to call another a slut or player unless they themselves admit to being so or it is in a joking manner.
RedRobin Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 What criteria does one need to fill before being labeled as such? My definition (without applying numbers). -Someone whose primary means of interaction with the opposite sex includes sex. -Those who are incapable of such interaction without sex occurring. -Those who are unable to develop emotional intimacy with the opposite sex or does not have filters other than sex to determine partner worthiness. -Men or women who have difficulty bonding or choose not to bond emotionally through sex. - Those who have a high need for physical variety. - Displays varying degrees of addictive behavior. Has sex compulsively rather than find other means to manage life/issues/emotions.
ascendotum Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) Slut is such a young term. The last time I used it was back in highschool when I heard a girl slept around a lot. Ok so now, you need to use the term, trollop for women who sleep around a lot (women with loose morals in olden days), and womaniser for men who sleep around a lot. Edited July 27, 2012 by ascendotum
