I never really noticed this phenomenon until recently, but way more often than not women do not hold the door open for me. Maybe it's because I'm pretty conscious of holding the door for the person behind me (man or woman), but it bothers me a little bit...

Do any other guys notice this? I don't think they are intentially trying to let the door close in the face of the person behind them, but more because they are used to having the door opened for them...not used to doing it for other people.

Where I live eveyone holds the door open for each other, as long as the person that they're holding the door open for is close enough behind them.

If someone is many meters behind you then no one would stand there for over 30's seconds holding the door open, and no one runs ahead to open the door for anyone else either.

I hold the door open for anyone. It's just the polite thing to do.

Ditto t'others. I'll keep the door for anyone, even if they're a little way back, I've got caught with the door a few times as a result as some people seem to prefer the barging method :D

I have women hold the door open for me all the time, way more often than men. While I always say something to be polite, I'll be extra friendly to make the chubbies and less attractive feel good. Quite often, they are far more appreciative than the really attractive bytches that expect people to go out of their way to hold a door for them. Coincidentally, its usually the short little guys that'll let the door slam on others. Guess they're just bitter.

Women have done it for me.

But I'm pretty sure it's just because they want to tap that ass, instead of being nice.

You know, with a little more self-confidence, you will do just fine. ;)

I hold the door open for both men and women. I once walked back to open a door for a woman who hadn't quite made it as I passed through; she was struggling with a large push-chair and christmas shopping.

I'm inlined to agree with you, though the gender difference is not really extreme blantant by any means. I also think it relates to what you said.

While I was raised to have good manners, I don't hold the door open as much these days, unless the person is just right behind me or is a child/old person, as too many times people have breezed past without any acknowledgment.

I hold doors open for men and women. But I can't deny there being a little something extra special when a man holds a door open for me vs when a woman does. When a woman does it's more of a comradery thing. When a man does it, it makes me feel more womanly.

I think it's really cute when kids hold the door open for you.

I hold the door open for everyone and I let people out of a shop always before I walk in. I noticed that men are usually more attentive than women this way though. Same goes for walking 2-3-4 abreast on the pavement, etc.
