So my daughter would have an older brother to look up to and "protect" her when it come to school and dating, parents cannot relate sometime. I know, sounds silly but I wish I had an older brother. I'm 19 and my brother is a year younger than me. He is so immature. It's just the thought.

RiverRunning Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 As for the China thing - things may be changing rapidly, but that doesn't change the fact that the upcoming generation is screwed (122 boys born for every 100 girls; in most of the world, it's 105 boys born for every 100 girls, roughly). It's well-documented that in societies where there are shortages of women, men are far more likely to get involved in crime. It's a huge problem and it's going to be a long-standing one. They probably have a few generations of work ahead of them, at least - cultural attitudes don't change in a single generation, especially when the oldest ones holding these beliefs continue passing them down. But we are experiencing the same thing in the US with more couples wanting girls for a child. I do think that tampering with nature in that regard is a recipe for disaster. Thankfully, the cost of that sort of thing is prohibitive enough that most people in the US are not going to have the opportunity to choose whether or not they'll have a boy or a girl. Me personally? Female. Don't really care. I figured I'd wind up with a son. 1
