KTN Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 My boyfriend had to leave his job close to a year ago because of a medical problem and now he's on disability. He didn't have much savings to fall back on and thou he's being careful with the money he gets from disability after he pays for things like rent and electricity and basic groceries there's not enough money left for food for the rest of the month or any personal things needed. He asks for my help so I've been buying him food and other things he needs and I'm providing a cell phone for him. I worry about him but I’m also worried about money because it’s tough taking on extra expenses plus trying to pay my own bills. Our relationship has become more like platonic friends than being girlfriend and boyfriend. There's no one else to help out since he doesn't have any living family and his friends disappeared when he started having problems. It’s overwhelming because I feel like I'm the only one there for him and that suddenly I’ve become totally responsible for him. Any advice?
wow04 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 How long have you been together? There are two ways to look at this: 1.) It's not your responsiblity to take care of him. He can get assistance in rent, food, and utility bills. 2.) You can move in together to make the bills lower as in one rent, one set of groceries, one set of utility bills, ect.

We've known each other for about 3 years. His disability payment is the assistance he's getting for rent, food and utiility bills. But realistically it's very little money and I don't know how anyone can live on that. I care about him but should I move in with him knowing that our relationship has become more like platonic friends instead of boyfriend and girlfriend?
