Another thing on that long list of things I just don't "get" is why some other men absolutely MUST include pics of themselves grinning and holding up a fish they've caught. Is it supposed to be their way of saying they want to take women out to a seafood restaurant? I've tried fishing, and found it monumentally boring... if I want fish, I just go to the supermarket and buy fish!

Just to poke fun at those guys though, I'm going to draw a fish onto a piece of cardboard from an old box and cut it out, then tie a string to it and hold it up for the camera so I can put it on my OLD profiles. It's my way of saying, "here's what I think of your silly fishing pics"! :lmao:

It's a turn off to me - I'm a vegetarian :-)

I find it extremely stupid and it's a turn off to me as well. So are men posing next to their cars/motorcycles/guns/whatever. It's a complete show off situation.

Fishing is a hobby. You don't do it so much for the food as you do for the relaxation, tranquility, and the nature. You take a picture of your fish just to show how you did that day. Also for your own personal record. Its no different than the idiots who post their food on Facebook and instagram or the idiots who brag about what they did at the gym that day.

At least fishing is an actual accomplishment.

I'd rather cook a fantastic risotto or some hollandaise sauce... mmm....

Don't the fish just suffocate to death after you trick them into swallowing a hook by baiting it? Hardly an accomplishment.

A pic holding a dead animal just seems redneck to me.

It's proof that they can provide. You should interpret the fish as an offering. A protective signal. When you take the fish and go eat it, you will come back to him feeling satisfied, secure, more friendly and wanting more.

I don't get why people post on facebook or any of the other "social media" then come to boards like this and complain about having intimacy or relationship or communication problems.

Fishing is a hobby. Its not mine but what is the point of making fun of others hobbies? At least you know you wouldn't be interested in girls who like to fish.

I'm from the South. It reminds me of my grandfather . And fishing involves good times. The water, conversation, cleaning the fish, frying, eating, and more conversation.

Though I can understand what it looks like from the outside. We didn't do it for sport though.

Just another case of "I don't like it therefore its stupid" Judgmental behavior.

You don't like her opinion, therefore it's stupid. I guess everyone gets to be judgmental when they feel like it.

No way would I ever put such a picture in a dating profile, but I've got all kinds of fishing pictures. Fishing has been part of life ever since mom first took me fishing at the mountain streams and rivers as a child. Ha, I just had some rock cod for dinner :D

I love those pics. I grew up going fishing with my dad and brother and those were the best times. Hell, I am getting up at 4am and going fishing with my brother in a few days :D

So when I see a man holding a big fish, I instantly feel

I actually asked a BF about this once and he told me that fishing is his relaxing time. It's his time to be on the water, away from it all, and think. And catching fish is a challenge to him. It's not easy to many. He also mentioned how being able to fish and have food is empowering, like "I caught this. I can provide". It's just a man showing his muscles and being a man.

I have no thoughts whatsoever on fishing. I do know that every man I've ever met, including those I think sleep in their suits, has the obligatory fishing photo somewhere in his home. I always look for it.

Going fishing is awesome. Crabbing is even better. Chicken necks on a string...seeing them run across the kitchen floor and then hearing them scratch around in the pot. Childhood memories.

I guess you have to be a Marylander to get it.

I love when my husband goes out and brings home food. He does too. It makes him feel good. I would be lying if I said I didnt take pictures of him with fish he brought home for us to eat, among other things. :) Lol. He accomplishes his "duty." His word! He takes great pride in providing for us. I am very capable of doing the same things he does, but he likes his gender specific role and it makes him feel more like the man. He enjoys it for many reasons and to be honest, it is probably more for himself, than anyone else. Lol. Im cool with that. I do not hunt because I am not able to hurt anything. I do target practice, but NO hunting at all for me. Fishing is just boring to me. I have never caught a fish bigger than my hand. Hehehehehe.

I dont like chopping wood, or fishing. I do like being warm and cooking all the food! I do go out and play outside with my H, but he certainly enjoys its more. Lol

We could care less about pictures, but I can honestly say its sexy to see my husband standing there holding a huge fish with his big sexy hands, arms and chest, and all manly lookin'! SUPER HOT.

It sounds like we all have different lives. :) I would be a vegetarian if pigs and cows were vegetables. I live in a place where I can go outside everyday and take farm fresh eggs from the chicken coop. We eat from our garden as much as we can. We raise meat hens and layer hens.

I have noticed those pictures a lot myself. Is a total turnoff. like I'm such a man see what I can do. Catch a fish.

Must as in most of his pics are with fish? If you want to get to know someone take them fishing!

I have fished my whole life and love it! My father was an avid fisherman and he was from the Bronx. Now what the heck is a man from the Bronx doing fishing? Good question and I sure hope it wasn't in the East river lol. Personally, I don't see any harm in it. Most people go fishing and take home whatever they caught but I'm statistical anomoly as usual in that I'll fish all day until I get burned lobster red and will NOT eat whatever I caught! I do not eat seafood and probably (unless it's a bet) never will. I have a boat and can't wait until the next time I take it out. having a profile with a fish they caught is not a big deal IMO. Besides, mabye they want to meet someone who share a hobby of thiers.

Really? You can't figure out that perhaps they enjoy fishing and are proud of the monster they caught? I don't fish but I do have some photos showing me doing activities that I enjoy - it's the same as that.

I see plenty of women holding fish, too. Can't say that I spend much time looking at men's profiles.

This I like. :)

I think sometimes you have to bash them over the head to finish them off.

edit to add: and there are some styles of fishing where the fish is put back, alive, into the lake. After taking the photo. So I've heard.

That's what my dad and brother do

Ah.. The internet guy. Criticising everything and everyone around him, because he cannot get laid. It's precious when you meet one in its natural habitat.
