I planned the perfect ending - it turned into a nightmare!

I was going out with this guy for 2 years. I loved him deeply. He cheated and so we broke up about 6 months ago but the feelings lingered and we had ex sex occasionally. Anyway, he is leaving for overseas for a year in two days so we decided to have one more night together before we broke up for good.

We organised a hotel, expensive champagne, all our favourite food... Maybe there was too much pressure, or too much alcohol, but it totally fizzled. The conversation was a bit stilted and after listening to him drone on about his problems for an hour I never realised before how self absorbed he was. He also kept complaining about being tired and having a headache. Anyway I tried to make the most of it and initiated sex. We used to have the best sex on the planet - although we aren't emotionally compatible there has always been unbelievable physical chemistry. Well on the night we were knocking teeth together and he was slipping out... It was terrible! We both came but it was nothing like it used to be and then he fell asleep leaving me wide awake wondering what went wrong.

He is on a plane now and it's over. I guess I'm just upset and frustrated that our last night together didn't do our relationship justice. It's hard to look back and think how amazing we used to be together without getting the images of this night out of my head. He agreed it was a bit of an anticlimax and I despair that he will never look at me with lust in his eyes again. Or even want to maintain the friendship given the awkwardness of what we were left with.

You get that when a person you care about is leaving. It's just anxiety, had the exact same thing happen with two of my exes - bad performances. Dunno why, but the idea of leaving/being left just stresses you out, even if you don't feel it.
