So I decided to let my beard grow in and see if women treat me differently.

I'm not talking about a nicely trimmed beard but a wild, untamed, caveman, "grow where it wants to grow" beard.

I can say that I have noticed a difference in how women treat me. I've mainly been around older women so take it for what it's worth.

Women seem to be more "open" with the beard. They say "hi" more and look at me in the face more when we talk. They are more prone to make eye contact and seem more talkative all around.

It's not some magic pill but I do notice a difference.

Now I'm wondering if I really let the beard grow out Jim Morrison style, if it will start having the opposite effect.

I'm not a fan of beards - when Brad Pitt grew his, I thought it detracted from his looks. With untidy beards, I also worry that I'm going to see bits of food in there. This is something I've experienced in the past and it's made my retch inside - the visual of hair and bits of food does not look good. Thus, I try not to look in the guy's direction as I don't want to bring up my last meal.

Having said that, if you're receiving more positive reactions, then go with it. You must be one of those guys for whom a beard "works."

I hear ya about the food thing. When I see a guy with food in his beard it makes me ill as well. That's why I try to be super careful when I eat.

The absolute worst thing to eat with a beard is an ice cream cone. Yuck!

Years ago one boyfriend had a beard because he had a thin face, also a baby face - and the beard did make him more attractive. He kept it trimmed though, never wildmanish.

I love a beard, although I prefer it to look neat, not scraggly. I like Matt Kemp's.

Older women like my beard. I definitely look better without it though.

Not a fan of facial hair. I wonder what he is hiding -- bad skin, receding chin? Men who are going bald usually start growing beards so that's two strikes against them in my book because I am not attracted to bald or bearded. Hey, everyone has different preferences.

I only shave once a week lately.

I don't like beards.

My sister's fiance has a beard, and he once shaved it off as a surprise. He apparently looks better with the beard.
