For those of you who have been hurt by your ex's actions via facebook, here's an alternative.

I've been part of this network for several years. I'm not very active on it, but I like it very much.

It's very different. People's pages arent tied to one another in the way facebook is. You can't send messages out to everyone at once, but it's very nice and friendly. It provides ways of getting to know people one on one. It's more personal than facebook and I enjoy it.

InterPals Penpals :: Make friends online and find free pen pals from around the world!

That link description came up like that on it's own. It's a lot more than being pen pals, you don't have to snail mail each other. You can email each other via their mechanism, you can be a epal or not, write on people's "walls" or just say hi to people. It's a nice way of meeting people.

Enjoy

I did join google-plus, but nothing ever really came up it. Again, I wanted to talk about social issues. No one every responded. People responded to nice pictures and silly things.

On Interpals, I have talked about the HIV problem with women in Zambia and modern slavery with people who have ties to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I have talked about wildlife conservation with a woman in the US. I've talked about books with people in European countries.

Hmm, I didn't know Yahoo had a social network. Maybe I will check it out. It's nice to try new things.

No, dont check yahoo sites, it was meant as joke. Yahoo is like abandoned town (like in cowboy movies) or like ghost ship (like in pirate movies).

I think if you go with approach "this site will be better then the previous" then you are wrong. People are the same everywhere. Also if you go to other network cause your ex is on FB already... he may pop on that other network too, and what then? You cant run always. (I have to remember this for myself too).

And you mention HIV and slavery and etc, remember: it is not your responsibility.

It is nice if you genuinely care about those matters. But this also can seem like after the breakup you are caring for everybody else, but not for yourself. It is a coping mechanism, but is is flawed. I am sure you know such thing exists. It resembles the stuff: I must be nice to everybody so that everybody likes me. I hope you are not like this :) HIV and slavery are not your problems. You are biting at a very big chunk, I am not even asking can you chew it? Cause I know- you cant chew it. Nobody can, nobody could in the past, nor in near future. It is nice that people care, but only for the right reasons.

At the time I was discussing those things I was trying to get involved in projects to help other people. I've been involved in helping people and animals way before I met my ex.

It's true, my ex might show up on Interpals. But the things is that he used Facebook to hurt me, not Interpals. Also, there are no pics that pop up with messages saying "Do you know this person?" Also, there is no status box. It's just very different. You get different types of people everywhere, but my experiences with Interpals has been much more positive.

For Interpals.net, most people just send messages saying "Hi" and it starts from there.

Okay, deleting my facebook is not about running. It's about doing what's right for me.

HIV and slavery is ALL of our responsibilities. We are all connected.

Helping those in need is a wonderful thing to do. As I said, I did these things long before I even met my ex. It's what I do. That's my Saturday night at the bar. It's what I love to do. But that doesn't mean I don't take care of myself. I am trying hard to take care of myself too. A nice humanitarian project can take one hour a week if you want it to. It can even take 15 minutes a month. You'd be surprise the great things you can do in 15 minutes. That's not ignoring yourself. That leaves people plenty of time to take care of themselves.
