I just ended a 3 year relationship a few months ago and I am still getting back into the groove of talking to women I meet in public. I go to a local Starbucks every morning before work and there is a girl there who I am pretty certain is in to me. She has a nickname for me and writes it with big smiley faces on my cup. I've recently decided that I need to step up my efforts to start dating again and I need to figure out the best way to ask her out. It can get busy in there so I only get a couple minutes a day to talk to her. Also, all her co-workers and other customers are around so I don't know about just coming out with it? On the other hand, I've gotten to know her co-workers too, so maybe that could be to my advantage?

Oh this is an easy one. Ask for your drink and when she asks "will that be all" say "I'd also like one date please" and give her a wink ;)

Followed by the pistol hand gesture...that would be awesome/hilarious!

...maybe not for you but for me yes!

I'm not sure If I would be that cheesy about it...maybe say something on the light funny side..

for example: (ill make up her name!)

"So Chrissy...I'd like to ask you out for coffee but that might be a little...weird, so how about I ask you out for dinner instead? :)"

If you can make her laugh that will be a big plus...other than that just subtle flirtations would be a good gesture, maybe she'll respond with some nice big smiles and that will lead up to a more direct and personal conversation, it wouldn't hurt to get to know her if you could before asking...you might have to find an ideal time when others are not around or maybe be creative about it...I would just recommend being direct about it and not trying to find some easy way to get in touch with her, you should approach her directly...even If It makes you look and feel a bit embarrassed..you have to be bold.
