The argument is more common that women look for men who resemble their dads looks/personality wise. However, I've noticed another common phenomenon where women seek mates that resemble their male sibling (and often these girls have strong/close relationships with their brother). I wonder if males do this when searching for mates...

Has anyone noticed this too?

I guess there is some truth in how some couples look alike.

I agree, however, I think its more that women want men that look like themselves - a woman's brother naturally tends to(but not always) look like her.

Moreover, it has been suggested that imprinting—memorizing in early development the visual image of parents and then using these images of mate choice—may guide assortative mating in humans. Children tend to resemble their parents and there is some evidence of mechanisms that allow humans to ‘imprint’ the faces of their parents at an early age. The visual memory created by this imprinting process may then be used to select a mate, producing assortative mating as a consequence.

Hmm, just found this source from the web. I suppose it probably applies towards siblings too.

Couples look alike because overtime, their start to resemble each other alot. Don't know why that is.

As for the father thing, I don't think any of my boyfriends have looked like my dad. I actually refused to date one guy that asked me out because he looked exactly like my dad, and it felt incredibly weird. He literally was a copy of my father when he was 20 years old.

My current bf looks nothing like my dad (and thank goodness!).

What you're describing is not incest. Incest would be an attraction to the blood relative. It is a much differant thing to be attracted to someone who looks simular to your blood relative.

I guess it could be incest attraction if the person were attracted to someone who looked like a blood relative because social taboos prevented them from expressing their attraction to their blood relative.

My anecdote is gray, as my exW was of the same cultural ancestry as my mother (I have no siblings) but they shared little in common physically, other than hair color and a smattering of specific but minor features. I will say that photographs of my exW's and my faces, when close to each other, did show a striking resemblance between *us*. Also, I do look a lot like my mother's brothers did at my age. My father's genetics were nowhere to be seen :D

Past LTR's have been all over the place physically and culturally, so no real correlation that I can determine. I guess I failed to prove the argument.

I'm not sure but I find it kind of disturbing when someone dates a person that looks like their parents. A good example is my ex dating someone that practically looks like her dad...when I saw what he looked like I found that to be somewhat disturbing. I wouldn't do something like that though.

Parents, siblings, cousins..it's gone down in history many times. Yeah I would agree with what you're saying. Besides it's also bad with genetic abnormalities with offspring.

Check out Sigmund Freud he had good analysis on such things. Women are attracted to their fathers which is why as girls they would run to 'Daddy' first. And men are attracted to their moms which why as boys they show more affection to 'mommy'.

For me I had to check myself because my mom is a very strong woman. And I was immediately attracted to powerful and strong women--that I would shoot the damsels and inferior down. Something I had to check myself about.

I know for a fact that it's common for cousins to interact with eachother sexually first. I've experienced it but it was more experimentation and exploring than anything else.

I know my friend's older cousin who gave him his first orgasm when he was only 12 and she was 17. I told him he was crazy, but it didn't hurt anybody. Lol

not sure about the thruthiness of this argument, but the girls i've been attracted to look nothing like my siblings, cousins, mother, grandmother, etc; and no, my family isn't bad looking so this isn't a self-hate thing.

culture and personalities are another issue however. for another thread.
