SmileFace Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Actually, 17 is the new legal age of consent in NYS. I know this might be alarming to some of you, but oh well. It is what it is anyway. With that, 21 remains the legal age to drink everywhere in the U.S. as it should be, because of obvious repercussions surrounding it. We don't need the law legalizing drinking teens, now do we? Good to know. However it doesn't change my opinion on the matter. I know in my social group dating a 38 year old guy was gross at that age. It didn't matter the car he drov or the flashy thing he could get me... it was gross and a disgrace to my family. I only graduated H.S at 17, a 38 year old? No thanks. 1

I thought it had been that way for years.
SmileFace Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 In a couple months she'll be 18 and this coming from your lips will seem even more hypocritical. No, not really.
LittlePrince Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Good to know. However it doesn't change my opinion on the matter. I know in my social group dating a 38 year old guy was gross at that age. It didn't matter the car he drov or the flashy thing he could get me... it was gross and a disgrace to my family. I only graduated H.S at 17, a 38 year old? No thanks. A black woman dating outside her race is seen as a disgrace by many blacks. So what? Why are you getting so judgmental now.
LittlePrince Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 What exactly do you consider him having his stuff together. He is 38 and single hitting on a underage chick...no bueno By having his stuff together people aren't referring to marital/relationship status or who they prefer.
SmileFace Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 A black woman dating outside her race is seen as a disgrace by many blacks. So what? Why are you getting so judgmental now. Exactly...so what? What is your point?
SmileFace Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 By having his stuff together people aren't referring to marital/relationship status or who they prefer. I don't remember asking you
LittlePrince Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I don't remember asking you You are taking issue with the commonly accepted meaning of the phrase so anyone could take issue plus it wasn't a pm but a public message.
LittlePrince Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Exactly...so what? What is your point? You are being ridiculously hypocritical towards her considering your own situation. Someone such as yourself should have more empathy.
NYC-BigKat Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 You are being ridiculously hypocritical towards her considering your own situation. Someone such as yourself should have more empathy. Stop it ok? Dont keep fighting over stuff. We should be helping the op out so she dont make bad choices to sleep with this man almost 40. She need to see that she gonna make a big mistake if she do. She not listening to her father so maybe we can help her. 2
SmileFace Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 You are taking issue with the commonly accepted meaning of the phrase so anyone could take issue plus it wasn't a pm but a public message. I was not asking what the phrase meant but what is meant to her so unless you can provide me with her opinion, I was not asking you. Public message or not, you can see that the question was clearly positioned to the op. However thank you for answer.
SmileFace Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 You are being ridiculously hypocritical towards her considering your own situation. Someone such as yourself should have more empathy. What situation?
LittlePrince Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Stop it ok? Dont keep fighting over stuff. We should be helping the op out so she dont make bad choices to sleep with this man almost 40. She need to see that she gonna make a big mistake if she do. She not listening to her father so maybe we can help her. I don't find it to be a bad choice. I find him to be a better choice than spending another moment around her abusive father and enabling mother.
SmileFace Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Don't play coy. Whatever.. I hope you aren't under impression that if her father is actually abusing her that that is ok. However the fact that her mother is enabling this situation is just as bad. I tried to present my response in a way the op may relate too however that clearly makes me a hyprocrite...so be it. Your father may come across wrong and mother doesn't seem to be much help but you need to see that a man of that age shouldn't want to engage with someone so young. You are 17, enjoy your youth, have fun with kids your own age. Have fun being a teen - he can't fit into that, so don't have him try. Speak to your father, he wants you to know he cares. He isn't trying to control but let you know this situation isn't good for you. 2
ThaWholigan Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I don't find it to be a bad choice. I find him to be a better choice than spending another moment around her abusive father and enabling mother. You think that she should continue to date a 38 year old man she barely knows anything about, and she's barely made it to 18? I wouldn't even date a 17 year old, and I'm 23! 2
LittlePrince Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Whatever.. I hope you aren't under impression that if her father is actually abusing her that that is ok. No, it is ok because there is nothing wrong with it just as a certain woman dating outside of her race. Your father may come across wrong and mother doesn't seem to be much help but you need to see that a man of that age shouldn't want to engage with someone so young. Then you don't know men. You are 17, enjoy your youth,She is with an older man. have fun with kids your own age. That isn't a requirement for having fun or enjoying her youth. Have fun being a teen - he can't fit into that, so don't have him try.He isn't a geriatric. He can still have fun even at his age. There is no need to force a fit as you presuppose. If there are issues between him and her friends they can always get new friends. Friends are a dime a dozen. Speak to your father, he wants you to know he cares.Nothing in his behavior has suggested he cares except about himself, his pride, and his prejudices. He isn't trying to control but let you know this situation isn't good for you.He is trying to control her. Haven't you read her posts? He is jealous and secretly wants his daughter for himself.

He wants to kick ass! I know how Puerto Ricans can get, especially the fathers, and when they say kick ass, it's a word to be taken seriously. I'm sure the OP can speak from some of her past experiences. That is why she's avoiding him.

LittlePrince Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 its not about race. Ageism and racism are prejudices. All prejudices are the same.
LittlePrince Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 So dating a 38 year old is ok? That is what my problem is. Are you jealous? Why should you care about their ages? She is legal. That is all that really matters.
SmileFace Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Are you jealous? Why should you care about their ages? She is legal. That is all that really matters. Jealous? Don't I have my own situation to care about? I have no time to be jealous - you should know that.
LittlePrince Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Jealous? Don't I have my own situation to care about? I have no time to be jealous - you should know that. Yet you are still posting your jealous tirades.
