ukmr74 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Could somebody please suggest ways I could find if my ex has re-married? We were divorced in Chicago & then ex moved to Dallas (2 years back)? I think the spousal support ends if ex is married again. But how would I ever find that? I'm not exactly sure if ex is still in Dallas. My money gets deducted automatically from my monthly paycheck and goes to ex. Thanks for your help and best wishes to all of you!
MissBee Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Is there no way for your lawyer to check this out? Is your ex required to tell you when they remarry?
Author ukmr74 Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 Is there no way for your lawyer to check this out? Is your ex required to tell you when they remarry? Thanks for your reply! Honestly my lawyer screwed me during the divorce process. Charged over $40K for doing basically nothing. And on top of that I have to pay my ex for 4 years almost half my salary (we have no issues). So basically hate going back to him. No ex is not required to tell me but I think I can get the money back if I can prove that ex got married while getting maintenance. But my main reason is I'm not doing well at my current job. Stress from divorce... Need a fresh start at a new place but it is kinda hard with so much monthly maintenance that I have to pay ex...
Steen719 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I think you could find a public records or vital statistics website that will give you information for the state that you are looking for. I have never done it for Texas, but I did it for NY state and found what I was looking for. Some sites charged, but I found a free one.
2sunny Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Intelius - you may pay a fee - but search her name and age for that state and see what it brings up before you pay.
SuperGeek Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I believe in the US marriage/divorces are public documents. You should be able to pay a data-mining company specializing in public documents for a search. Or you could just take a weekend and search the database yourself in the state your wife resides. My ex recently got married to her dirtbag boyfriend, so no more support from me. I'm FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. You paid 40k? I can see why you're angered. That's a lot of dough just to get divorced. I was able to get out of it with 15k in legal fees and only about 10k in maintenance. So 25k for me. It is going to take one hell of a woman for me to get married again. I don't wish the divorce process on anyone. It's hell. -SuperGeek
