So It's been a year since we moved out of the flat we shared and the furniture has been stored in my parents garage. We got back together for a few months but I finished it about 7 weeks ago as I was just still too hurt by it all and could not trust him. I love him and wish him every happiness but I could not make him happy anymore. I have been dreading sorting out our things, he has not done anything about them. I have finally started selling them, I have had a few tears going through things as the memories are still so fresh and I can picture us together in our bed, using our washing machine. Surely I have to look at them as just items and another reminder out of the way

Yes and no. They all mean something to you and it's okay to acknowledge that. But they belong to a time that is not part of your today or your future. The purging will help you to create a clean slate on which to design the rest of your life.

Furniture? Washing machine? You may need those later; save them so you dn't have to waste money and repurchase.

That's quite the memory.

I'm actually going to buy a lock box and put all of the things other than clothes she got me into it. Removing memory triggers is important.

Yes, I have already done that. All memories boxed away. I have now sold most things apart from a few items which are now wrapped and at the back of the garage! One day I hope when I go out there it won't be so painful. Little triggers do not help, even going to places for the first time but I hope with time and once you have been nack for the first time it will not seem as painful??!!! memories will fade right?
