I was talking to a friend of mine and saying how the only time I think about not having a girlfriend is on my birthday which is this weekend. Then I was informed that lots of time people in relationships don't acknowledge each other's birthdays???

I never been in a long term relationship so that's why this is shocking to hear

Guys that do not acknowledge the birthday of the GF are the same guys that want to go dutch all the time or expect the female to pay.

How does someone still stay together if one forgets the other birthday?

Not the case for me now

But my fiance - ex ... not only forgot my birthday- he had planned to take me to a very sentimental place from when we were in highschool- but he worked on his motorcycle all day. About 7 p.m. - my phone has been ringing off hook all day - I am in garage "helping" hand him tools... and he starts to yell- why the _uck is everyoe calling you- what the ___ do they want- yaydadada. I give him the look like - wow. And he says- what ? was I suppose to do something today? - I tell him it is my birthday ... nothing.

So I go inside- decide I should just take myself out- but getting late- so I decide bake my own cake. he comes in when ready to place it in oven- and again- starts yelling- how I am not allowed to use his oven. OK? So whatever ... he always yelled for nothing.

So I go take bath- watch my favorite movie- he is still working bike. Go to bed. 10:15 p.m. At 10:30 p.m. he is yelling at me- get up and get dressed- taking you out for your birthday- I am done now. I tell him place is closed- they closed at 9 p.m. more yelling. (I had called the place.) I go to bed ... basically thinking I should have just gone myself- thsi was no different than any other date.

Next day- again offers to take me out for my birthday ... we end up goinga week later... Happy fourtyeith

Yes- it happens a lot.

Basically I was thinking while reading your thread that he is an abusive assclown and you really should re-think why you are with him.. Abuse like that will continue to get worse and by then it will be too late to get out.

I an pretty sure his behavior was noticeable prior to the engagement. Thank goodness he is an ex.

Yeah.....that's never happened, in any of my relationships, ever. I've also never known a couple where the partners don't acknowledge each other's birthdays.
