Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I need an opinion, I am a professional woman who is 35 and badly wants to get my nose pierced. Just a little cute teeny tiny diamond stud. I think it looks so cute and stylish on other women. What do you guys think, am I too old? =(
lydiamarie Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 http://www.loveshack.org/forums/t40364/15-1 that's a link to our discussion of the topic: how old is too old for piercings. as a pierced young woman myself, i must say that i am a fan and would say that 35 is not too old.
msrealdoll Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 No, you're not too old. I think it will make you look younger. Is it okay with work for you to have your nose pierced? I think that would be very sexy and cool-a very professional looking woman with a small diamond. Do it!
Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I am in a professional position, but I agree that the piercing I want, a super teeny tiny little diamond stud, on my right side I think, will look cute, sexy and still be professional and tasteful. Nice to that I'm not crazy for wanting to pierce my nose. Other than my ears pierced just once, this is my first "body piercing". I am excited to get it done...glad you guys don't think I'm crazy! Do you guys have your noses pierced?
lydiamarie Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 yep, i've had my nose pierced for about two years now, i'm in college so it helps me blend in
tiki Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I'm 28 and work in a doctors office and had mine pierced for about 6 months. I wish I still had it =( I think they're cute and sassy. I'm thinking about getting mine RE-DONE! As long as the boss is ok with it, i think it's awesome.
She's Come Undone Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Hey there! I'm 31 and am still contemplating it. I want the same thing Jenifer, a tiny little diamond. I just worry about what it will say about me. Not that I give a rat's *ss, but I'm a single mom, I work with all college students, and I would prefer for people not to view me differently. So far that's been my only hang-up. Does anyone know how to test it out before actually doing it? With a fake, stick-on or whatever? Where does one find this? I am so excited to see this post! Maybe we can get one "together!" LOL
kirkyswife Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I had my nose pierced when I was 18 and in college but even in the entertainment industry (which is the industry I work in) I would not feel comfortable meeting with record company execs, sponsors or new clients even with a tiny speck in my nose and I am not conservative by any stretch of the imagination. It's just that when I put on my suit and sit with a client challenging them on their proposed marketing strategy and budgets, I think they are spending time fixating on the little shiny glitter on my nose and not the weight of my material. Also, in my line of business Image is Everything - in fact, it's all that we have and longevity stems from the ability to secure the granddaddy sponsors which are the "good ole boy" businesses. An ethnic woman has 2 hurdles ot overcome walking in the door - 1. erasing preconceived notions regarding the ethnic group AND 2. being the Founder and CEO of a relatively new form of marketing firms that have proven success but very little budget allocations - I'm selling myself, my company, my success and my potential and haven't even been considered for the big marketing dollars yet.
lydiamarie Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 there are a couple of women in the advising office at my college who each has her nose pierced. they look to be about 40. you used to be able to buy magnetic nose rings-you probably still can. the magnet is really strong so you don't have to worry too much about sucking the back up into your sinuses
Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Hey She's COme Undone! Glad I have some company! I want a super teeny tiny little diamond stud in my right side. Let's get it done this weekend!!! Where are you from?
CurlyIam Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I'm 24 and I am thinking of having my belly bottom pierced... I am soooo scared of needles ! I think I have some prejudice against nose piercing: I've only once seen it on a person with the most beautiful nose ever and it suited her perfectly. But that's only my pov! It's probably linked to the image I have of hippy girls with long colourfull clothes and piercings... I have rarely seen nice, delicate rings... A priori, I don't like the idea. But if you feel like making a statement and really want to do it, I think age is irrelevant (I don't approve of it just as much on a 16 as on a 31 )!
She's Come Undone Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I'm in South Carolina! I may need a little more time! LOL They have some .02 ct diamond nose rings on ebay that I'm looking at right now. Do a search for nose rings. There seems to be a straight stud and a curved lookin' thing. Hmmm.
Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Come on girly, we can do it!! If we dont like it, you can just take the stud out and it closes up and nobody has to know, right?
She's Come Undone Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I don't even know where to go yet! Where are you from?
lydiamarie Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 the kind of nosering you are looking at is called a nose screw. you put the end in your nose, twist, and push the the top up and in until it slip in-it's painless. the curved back is to keep it from falling out of your nose. nose bones look like a regular stud earring with a slightly swollen end-they look like they could slip out at any moment, but they actually stay in rather well. i still have lost those both down the drain (i wasn't careful while washing my face) and in my bed (scratched my nose in my sleep). the first time i put one of these in it was a little sore, but not bad at all. the last option (that i know of) is a stud that has a threaded end, so it screws into a back. these are a little tricky because you have to hold the back in your nose while you turn the stud. i think this is the kind that you can purchase in india and sri lanka. i would suggest buying your first ring at the piercing parlor. then you know it is quality and is sterile. also, your piercer will custom bend the nose screw (probably what he will start you with) to fit your nose. there are lots of sites that sell unused jewelry, i would be wary of buying anything from ebay.
Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I'm in California. I know there are alot of piercing places around here. Can you ask around for recomendations?
She's Come Undone Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Yeah, I could probably find someplace, maybe. I probably wouldn't want my 5 y/o to be present though, so I may wait until I don't have him. I just read a bunch of experiences and it seems to be fairly painless, which is a huge relief! Some people even did their own. I have done three ear piercings (when I was young and crazy) but I think I wouldn't do my own nose. So far two friends said they wouldn't disown me!
Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Let's do it!!! Which side do you want to do? We'll have to trade pictures!! I am so excited!
She's Come Undone Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Before I commit, has anyone bought the stick on ones just to see what it would look like? I found a site that sells them, but I have to by two packs, you want me to send you one so you can be sure? LOL
tiki Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I've used my eld eyebrow hoop and put it on my nose before. You've got a couple different kind from what I know of.... - the hoop - the bone - shaped like a bone -- I recommend this one for a professional. UNLESS you are looking to change it frequently. It hurts like a mofo when you take it out. - the regular kind - that has the extended wire that wraps inside of your nose to keep it from falling out. The wire can hang down if not set properly and it looks horrible. I got made fun of my coworkers!!! Most ppl here pierce with nothing but the regular kind. I changed to the bone after a few weeks. The piercing doesn't hurt a lot. There is a nerve that's attached to your eye and your eye WILL water. There's something there that sets it off. Don't panic. The hardest thing I found was keeping it clean of makeup. It's hard to work around that thing. You'll have to do some fading of your foundation around the area...you'll see what I mean. Keep in clean and free of face funk. It attracts a lot. Careful when you blow your nose, but you'll develop new nose-blowing rituals out of habit. Good luck, I hope you love it!
einahpets Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 i have heard you have to have the hoop in first until it has time to heal (i dont want a hoop, just a tiny little diamond like you guys). is this true? my job probably wouldn't be cool w/the hoop. also i know that i will not want this forever. what about healing? i love piercings but i am not too crazy about scars on my face. how many former nose people have a little scar? plus i have allergies (lots of nose blowing....)
tiki Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I didn't get pierced with a hoop - that would've never flown where I work. I also DO have a teeny tiny scar. It's really small. You can't even tell. It looks like a small blackhead.

Jenifer Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I definately want the little teeny tiny diamond stud, so will probably go with the bone or screw style. I'm going to do my right side. I have read that the hole, once you take it out and it closes/heals looks like nothing more than a pore..no big deal. Einaphets, are you joining She's Come Undone and I and getting yours done this weekend too??
