mandy may Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 i am curious how many people like to travel either by plane or by car? or are you just a simple down to earth home body?
Olivia_19742004 Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Trains, planes, boats or automobiles! Any way I can travel I will travel. (Well except for a bus)
thecake Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 although I've had anxiety about flying since 9/11...before that I used to fly everywhere. I love to take road trips as well because I love seeing the landscape change. I work with a girl who has never been out of our state and she's in her late 30's.
msrealdoll Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I love to travel (bus, plane, car, etc.), but I hate staying in hotels. I like staying in people's houses better-like family. I like to get up in the morning and walk around in my PJs and drink coffee. If I could stay in a hotel with a kitchen and couch and computer, it would be okay. But homes are the best.
Fayebelle Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I travel all the time for work. I'm headed to VT next wk. I love going places but I REEEEALLLY miss my BF. It's good for us though. We spend so much time tog that my trips give us time to miss each other.
tiki Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I <3 to travel. And it's good for the soul. Puts homelife into perspective.
HokeyReligions Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Yes and no. I am perfectly happy being a home-body. Although I would love to have a real vacation again. Except for the one-day trip to San Antonio last February, I have not had a vacation in over 10 years. I do not count the one-day trip I made to see President Reagan lying in state. I would love to go to Washington and spend more time there seeing things like the Smithsonian. I would love to take a road-trip to visit civil-war battlefields and historic spots of interest. I would ADORE taking a week or so to drive the 450 mile long garage sale through several states! And I would love to take my husband to see the Grand Canyon! Of course, I would go to San Francisco in a heartbeat if I could. We were planning on going overseas about six years ago, but my mom ended up moving in so that fell through--but I'd still like to go. So, yes I guess I would like to travel! But its not going to break my heart if I never leave home again.
CurlyIam Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I like travelling. I've travelled around Europe since I was 14. Right now I enjoy more meeting different people and different cultures than travelling for the fun of it. I think a few years back I was enjoying travelling only for the pleasure of the place: for instance when I went to Florence and I visited the Galery's Exibit I was happy. I was taking so much pleasure in enjoying a place, feeling the atmosphere... Now I much more interested in meeting the people, discovering the differences between the cultures and see how history actually affected thier lives. I think I was a bit afraid of people when I was younger.
Author mandy may Posted June 30, 2004 Author Posted June 30, 2004 that so many people not only like to trave but love to travel as well! i must be really strange then because i do not like to travel anymore where as before i use to worry that i would not ever see parts of the world such as the ocean and now that i have a few times i just am not in the mood to travel any more and i get a lot of static for it from my hubby who loves to travel thus we argue about it alot. i hope to hear more inputs in my favor so i do not feel so alone here.
Author mandy may Posted June 30, 2004 Author Posted June 30, 2004 am hoping for more responses, anybody?
honey2005 Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I don't travel much, but when I get older I plan to do it a lot. I flew on a plane once before and I didn't like it much, so I'll probably be driving.
moimeme Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Sorry to disappoint you, mm, but I *love* to travel. I haven't done nearly enough of it in the past few years but my one most recent trip reminded me of what I'd been missing. I *love* seeing new places, eating new food, meeting new people. I love planes, trains, and even buses In fact, I can't even begin to imagine not wanting to travel. This is the one thing I'd be quite disappointed about if I never did again. (Well, one of two )
Mr Spock Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I love seeing new places, I HATE the transit in between my house and my destination. Weird. I love vacations, but hate not being able to bring all of my crap with me. I am not a good traveller. I get sick, cranky and tired. Planes, trains or automobiles.
Author mandy may Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 even on such a short post, i am the only one that did not like traveling anymore. maybe i am weird huh? lol.
msrealdoll Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Mandy, what about traveling do you dislike? Is it just being away from home? Do you not like seeing new places?
Author mandy may Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 well what i do not like about traveling is the being away from home for so long since he wants to go for a week or so at a time or he says it does not feel like a real vacation. i enjoy seeing new things definitely there, but it is so very hard for me to want to go so i struggle there and back. of course i do have fun too, but it is mostly a struggle with feeling trapped somewhere else and anxious about things. it is hard to explain but i just get a lot of anxiety away from home and i do not know why even but those are my main reasons why i do not like to travel.
moimeme Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Between this and the not doing things for people, it sounds as though you're starting to suffer from a lot of anxieties. Particularly if you used to like travel, and now don't, something may be up with you. I think it's time to go see a doctor and tell the doc about all these fears and anxieties of yours. This isn't sounding good.
msrealdoll Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I went through a period where I got very anxious when I was away from home. I was really into a routine, and would get really tense when I had to break it. It was a control thing with me. I was having a lot of trouble with my marriage. Now that has passed, and I'm much more relaxed traveling. Are you tense, or do you have any anxiety at home?

This isn't sounding good. You can say that again. I love to travel also. Most people would kill (not literally) to be able to travel more. I think it's very important to get out of the normal day-to-day routine once in a while, especially with someone you love, and enjoy shared experiences that you can look back on later in life when you'll be to old to do such things. I can't imagine not wanting to go out and see and try new things. You should consider yourself lucky that your boyfriend/husband enjoys traveling and wants you to travel with him AND he's willing to pay for it.
CurlyIam Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I was not tense when travelling. I never did travel alone (with my galfriends), so we had lots and lots of fun, beside the visiting and the adapting to the new place. I've just realized something: I only travelled when alone. Really. The typical picture: I took a break from ex and bam, there I am, visiting the Czeck Rebublic and France. I get back with him: it's only a few days at the seaside if I'm lucky. Yes, it was a problem of schedules and of money, but if one wants to do something, one usually finds a way. About anxieties: nope, I can't say I do have too many. I think I became an expertof some sort, I always have a lot of bags, but I don't think I ever forgot anything home. I like that - having all I need in handy. As for discovering new places and new people: I read a lot before travelling soI usually know what I'm gonna see and what to expect. About new people: I meet themonly if I feel like it - I have explained my differance in the approach. IT's not somethign I do for it is wise, fashionable etc. I simply take a lot of pleasure in taking a few days away from my usual life and do things exclusively for my little soul. My sister doesn't like travelling. She is perfectly happy at home, with her freinds, with her boyfriend and with her life. She's 21 and during holidays she's off to the seaside. That's her, and I like how she handles it. She hates the fuss, being uncomfortable, having to watch everything, making the suitcases, etc. Her happiness: short trips out of town, during week ends.
kirkyswife Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I love traveling - specifically by Airplane - I just like to get there. From 1996 to 2002 my travel schedule was typically 18-20 days per month (none of which was personal) I would say 25% of that travel was abroad - specifically Europe and Asia. 25% was divided between Mexico, Hawaii and the Islands and the final 50% was domestic. Of that travel 15% was via cruiseship, 15% was via chatered bus and the balance was airplane travel. From 2002 to Present my travel is limited to 7 to 14 days per montb. I would say 80% of my total travel is domestic (5% is to Las Vegas, NV either via automobile or airplane) and is typically departing from the West Coast to New York (also some travel to Texas, Atlanta, Miami and Chicago). 2005 and beyond, I am reducing my travel to 10 days TOTAL per QUARTER unless for personal vacations. I typically take a 4 week to 6 week vacation annually which is where I am able to spend time in my favorite exotic places like Thailand, Belize, Fiji, Cuba, Peru, etc.
