Okay, these qualities need to go out the window when describing someone as "trashy". I know way too many super loyal and loving married women with an abundance of both tattoos and piercings. And men love women who enjoy sex. But what do I know?? I'm just a female.
mortensorchid Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 THis goes back to the whole "why do women go for bad boys" question. Men go for bad girls aka trashy women as well. Why? It's the same principal really : they are more fun than a barrel of monkeys, tornados in the sack, etc. But, as I say to men who go for trashy women just like women who go for bad boys, I understand it completely but you're a grown up now. It gets old when they are getting into fist fights, throwing chairs through windows and calling for bail money. Because bad girls do the same that bad boys do! Unfortunately for a lot of guys I have seen, once again with a certain double standard that is there, who seem to go for bad girls / trashy girls and even marry them. This is just as bad as a woman hitching her wagon to a bad boy, but, men feel deep down, like women do, that they can somehow change the badness and "make it right". We rarely if ever succeed.

Trashiness is more about behavior than appearance. Also just because a woman is not some upper class princess does not make her trashy. Not directing that at you but in general.

This. ^ I personally love tattoos on women, but society dictates that that sort of look is deemed "trashy" by its "standards"...and it really is more about behavior than appearance, though appearance certainly plays a role.

I don't know any guys who want to DATE "trashy" girls--girls that you would see walking down the street and kinda cringe at...girls who would make out with their BFF in the bar for attention or jump up to participate in the wet t-shirt contest on spring break. Yeah they will probably sleep with that girl, but date? Not seriously. The guys I know wanna date a girl who acts like she has her s.hit together in public and doesn't come off as DTF to STRANGERS.

I think this is just the circles you roll in. Many of my female friends have tats, but they aren't trashy or considered trashy by anyone I know - they have good jobs, good Rs in many cases, don't behave in a trashy manner, are educated and intelligent, etc. In hipster-ish culture, you see a lot of tattoos -- not a lot of women absolutely COVERED in them, but a lot of women who have them and have tattoos that have a lot of meaning to them. I've never considered that trashy at all and tattoos were commonplace among women I went to college with (the tramp stamp looks a little trashy, but I don't know many women who specifically have THAT and wear the butt crack jeans to show it off, which is really the trashy part, not the tat itself). Hell, I knew quite a few young teachers with tats. Perhaps in military circles (I don't know) and certainly in Asian culture, it's considered trashy for women to have tattoos, Hokie, but it definitely isn't in many circles. A friend of mine has a tattoo of Einstein on her left shoulder, and she's a married medical researcher who otherwise looked like she stepped out of a J Crew catalog. People sure get weird about tattoos on this forum and I've never understood why --- I honestly don't think people in the Gen Y or lower generation think anything of them, really, and not even many Gen Xers. Personally, I only find it odd when people have tattoos that have no personal significance to them.

Well, this goes to show the sheer subjectivity of what "trashy" is...everyone will have different opinions, and even popular culture has varying opinions...and then you'll have individuals here that might possess a trait that someone else has deemed "trashy" and insist that said trait is not trashy... In the end, all that matters is what you think is "trashy"...not what I think, not what society thinks, but what you as an individual thinks. One person's trashy may not be the same as what another's is, but it doesn't really matter. I don't choose anyone else's dating preference, so why should my definition of "trashy" have any meaning to anyone else?

I would agree with this...and the more I think about it, the more I realize that it's a just a "want what I can't have" thing for me personally... 1
