Nohbody Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 The world of online dating has been more than a little depressing. I guess I'm really not ready to sort through the nonsense. That's it. I just felt like sharing. 1
fortyninethousand322 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I stopped logging into mine. But I feel you on OLD being bad. 1
ThaWholigan Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Disabled my OKC account a week ago, and have stopped logging into POF recently. Really concentrating on myself right now. 1

Lobouspo Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Is it just me or does life seem more enjoyable and relaxing when I take my profile down and am not navigating the pitfalls of online dating?
DuchessKaye Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 For me, online dating is like kissing frogs... and I am afraid of frogs, everytime I see frogs, I'm getting fever. Let alone kiss them...
truth_seeker Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I hear ya. I give it a twirl from time to time but it's depressing more often than not. Months ago I thought I met a great girl on OLD. Turned out she was a loser. Ruined it for me. Deleted my profile. Friends encouraged me to not give up and to keep trying. I created a new profile and started over. Went out on a date. Same bulls--t. Now I'm done.

I had one date with a girl who was actually very pretty... but then afterward she confided in me that she was an extra terrestrial energy being inhabiting a human body temporarily. I thought she was joking. Turns out she wasn't. 3

I thought she was joking. Turns out she wasn't. Dude, I had a guy tell me he could read the auras around people. He read a few on our date. He mentioned something about chakras and crystals and some other hocus pocus stuff that was entertaining but definitely not clued in from my perspective. Btw, this guy is on an advertisement for match. Granted, he was good looking but he was still kinda nutty. I also talked to a guy who had met a girl who told him she was suicidal on her first date. Another who started chanting in his car. There are some looney tunes online. 1
wavering_radiant Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I deleted all of my OLD profiles a week ago and haven't regretted it at all. Just a week out of it and I've realized how much time I had to sink into OLD just to be remotely successful, and now that time is free to do other things.

Well, in a weird way I can see auras too, although it may just be an extrasensory perception on my part (I have synesthesia). I don't do all that crystal stuff though. Chakras are interesting...
mortensorchid Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I wonder if our lives are crazier thanks to the introduction of the Internet or not. You have to wonder sometimes, this person was like this when I got here and had nothing to do with anything I have done or said. The only difference is that you know about them when you were walking around in ignorant bliss beforehand. Ah well, such is life.
WonderKid Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I am deleting my POF and OLD sites pretty soon I haven't logged in for a while. It does get lame for a while. I am not desperate I just thought I could find a nice person online. I thought it was some good people on there. But many people on POF are not who they say they are. And some people post pics from like years ago and when you meet them you're like....WTF??
Emilia Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 It fascinates me and I see it very differently now than I did about 3 years ago when I first tried it. Because my perception of it has changed so much I know that not two persons look at it the same way therefore the odds on meeting someone through OLD who is a match for you is very slim. There is simply no way of telling whom you are talking to, regardless how many words they have used to describe themselves in their profiles.
Emilia Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 'online dating' the moderators prefer 'OLD' because the longer phrase causes spam alerts
Emilia Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 can't type up the phrase here because I'm getting moderated by the moderators, they are not letting me post thinking it's spam. it's the mode of dating the OP referred to in his post. OLD is short for it and the moderators prefer it
William Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 The software is your enemy My apologies! A thought occurred...try "internet dating" If that works, I'll add it to the announcement. This is so commonly discussed we need to find a workaround 1
starla33 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I deleted all of mine as well. After the last guy I went out with who was super hot, but had posters of himself in his bedroom and couldn't share a bed with someone...um yeah weirdos.
