mortensorchid Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I was looking through the MeetUp groups in my town, and I came across one for a speed dating event. Has anyone actually done this? If so, what were your experiences? It's kind of embarassing thinking about it, but I keep flashing back to the scenes in the 40 Year Old Virgin. Maybe extreme, but ... Has anyone ever been to one?
JesseJames Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Oh, the meetups! I joined a kayaking group. All loathsome baby boomers. No women. Quit after first meet. I joined a foreign movie group. Haven't gone since they change the movie at the last second... mostly loathsome baby boomers. No women. Sure, I'd just love to do a speed date. I'll get to see more overweight old mother boomers that infiltrate every last event under the sun. Fantastic.
motive2002 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Is there a buzzer like on "America's Got Talent"? 2

Yeah I did, several years ago. I had a great time. Maybe not for everyone, but I'd definitely do it again. It beats OLD hands down.
FitChick Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 But isn't speed dating multi-dating since you are "dating" many men at the same time?
sid3 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 But isn't speed dating multi-dating since you are "dating" many men at the same time? Yeah, if you call a ten minute conversation dating.Following the same logic, OLD becomes multi dating when a person looks at more than one profile. I think there's a bit of a difference, not too mention multi dating has become a tired argument on LS. 1
Author mortensorchid Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 I guess I was thinking of trying it if not for the fact that I might meet someone worthwhile, but for the hilarious story that might unfold before me. 1
Vintage79 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I tried it once - it was interesting...definitely fun. Didn't get any serious connections out of it, but definitely an entertaining way to spend an evening. If cash isn't an issue...I'd try it if you're curious. You meet a lot of people you normally wouldn't run into...
Eternal Sunshine Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I never tried it but probably will when I am fully ready to look for a relationship.
Author mortensorchid Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 I guess a part of me wants to try it to say that I did it. But there is another part of me that is afraid because I don't want to come off as desperate. But, what the hell? I will try it if I can squeeze it into my schedule.

d'Arthez Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Different things work for different people. If you think it is worth a shot, do it.
HappyLove Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I've noticed a few LS have suggested speed dating. Never done it myself. Have you tried it? What did you think? Any success stories!
babycakees Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I guess I was thinking of trying it if not for the fact that I might meet someone worthwhile, but for the hilarious story that might unfold before me. This is the one reason why I would love to try it!
ReadySettyGo Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I've done it plenty of times. While the event may be entertaining and fun, the aftermath is usually humbling. In other words, enjoy the experience, but don't get your hopes up.
