Are people who are really into the bachelor and bachellorette show shallow?

I dated a guy years ago who was very shallow and into that show.

The guy I currently date is very into it. He gets very into the people and analyzing them. I think the show is silly and fake.

It concerns me that he could be shallow as well and his being 41 and never married could be related to being too shallow or picky.

Anyone here like the show care to add their thoughts to give a different perspective?

I don't like the show. I tend to avoid people who like such television shows. If they have nothing better to do than spend copious amounts of emotional and mental energy on such shows, they could not relate to me and my thoughts on a personal level.

Does he not have cable? Not trying to be sexist, but I’ve never met a man who was into The Bachelor!

I agree with d’arthez. I wouldn’t necessarily think he (or she) was shallow, but it would suggest some incompatibility as I can’t relate to someone who invests their energy into shows like that.

Not necessarily shallow, but certainly odd. I also have not known any guys who like that show. How do you find them?

Contextual, if just a guilty pleasure, NBD. If tv shows are a big part of their life, and not of yours, probably not compatible. My mother watches that, reads a good book a week and has done charity work her whole life so I don't think she's shallow due to it. The kinds of people I'm not compatible with are those who can't plan anything because "it's American Idol night."

Oh I 100 percent agree on that last part. I want someone who wants to go out and live life. Dvr if you need to see it but go out.

My mother is like this. She would not do anything or talk to anyone when desperate housewives was one.

Lol good question. I have tended to date metrosexual men.

I did not peg this guy to be metro though. He is not feminine at all. Very macho and plays sports. A simpleton in a way.

This. I'm just like your mom. It's my one guilty, silly pleasure. I read a new book a week (I'm in two book clubs as well), and spend most of my time when I'm not running doing charity work. The other shows I watch regularly and DVR are Meet the Press, Rock Center, Mad Men, True Blood, House Hunters, and Law & Order SVU.

Most of the married men I know watch the show (because their wives have it on), and find it entertaining and actually comment to me about it. It's fun to banter about. "Did you see how ______?!!!" and "So and so is a tool!"

Turns out this season my male BFF knows a guy on the show.

Deal break over a TV show? LOL haha!

You cannot tell about a person from the tv they watch. I watch jersey shore and wouldn't be caught dead dressing or acting like they do. I wached it because it was ENTERTAINING. I watch dating shows like Why am I still single, Tough Love Miami. Not for "tips" but because they are FUNNY.

From this list one may think I'm man drama-queen airhead BUT I keep up with news also. And I'm not talking about the 5pm local kind either. I watch fox and cnn, when most people stick to one or the other. I'm into this election campaign. I keep up with world news too, like the crap with Syria and and the what seems to be soon war with Iran, what's going on with world powers like China, Russia re-electing what most people think is a dictaor in Vladimir Putin. But hey, you'd never know that because I watch the Bachelorette rofl!

Do you spend your life analyzing said shows? Or did you miss the bit where I said:

The show is not the deal breaker (cringeworthy as it is), the behavior resulting as described by the OP would be. I love meaningful intellectual pursuits. Yes, I read Proust in my downtime.

Someone who reads Proust in his/her downtime for me has a tendency to overanalyze emotions/feelings/memories so i'm not sure it has good LTR potential ... i want my spouse to live in the present and not spend it overanalyzing stuff.

I hope i wasn't lacking in bluntness.

To the question at hand, if he believes those shows and those shows make a great portion of his life ... i think you got a problem.

Otherwise, if he watches them for other reasons [i watched some similar shows to see if i can read body language], i think you're safe.

Did you ask him about these shows ?

The Bachelor/ette? Absolutely silly and fake, as are almost all reality TV shows. I thought the majority of viewers understood that.

OP, do the guys you date honestly believe these shows represent reality? Because that would be a problem for me, not so much that they watch these shows.

Because I watch the sh*t out of Real Housewives, I'll tell you what. How can you not love to see 40+ year old women getting into absurd screaming matches at an 80s party while they're all dressed like Madonna circa 1986? Or at a swanky picnic throwing glasses of wine at one another? It's still silly and fake, but I mean, how can you not be entertained by that? A very guilty pleasure.

Wow women really analyze the tv shows men watch or if they watch tv to decide if they are worthy of a relationship? Damn talk about picky!

^ I couldnt agree more. Talk about haters.

When 24 was still on the air I couldnt be bothered mondays at 8pm. It was 24 night and everyone knew Id be off in the tv for an hour. Id analyze the show hardcore too.

Guess what too? Im a huge fan of newer Cartoon Network shows. The Looney Tunes Show, Adventure Time, and Regular Show, are all newer cartoons that both adults and kids can enjoy and Id tell a girl to buzz off if she criticized my love for these "kiddie shows". I make sure I catch the new episodes every week On Demand, and am religious about it just like I am with Chelsa FC and Real Madrid football matches. Im also a big fan of Current TVs Vanguard documentary series.

The point is that people watch a variety of things on tv, and while Im not the biggest fan of reality tv and do find it silly, Im not gonna hate on a girl or consider not dating her because of it. Tv shows arent exactly indicative of the personality of people who watch them. Hell, Ive always thought Jersey Shore was dumb as hell, but actually had fun watching it with my old housemates back in the fall when I gave it a chance.

I was obsessed with 24 too. Could not be bothered that hour... watching the clock click up.

TV shows are entertainment. So long as you're not actually trying to emulate the lifestyle of the show (Jersey Shore in particular!), it's all good.

Never would have guessed that about you. I watch My Little Pony whenever my sister is over and I'll admit I like it.

Also can't criticize someone for watching the bachelor since my DVR is filled with Maury episodes.
