I've been with my boyfriend for a little over a year now, and I adore him. For the most part, things are good. We spend time together, talk about the future, etc. Neither of us are seeing other people. My problem is he's very unexpressive. I'd like to say it doesn't bother me and that I don't need verbal affirmation....but I do. We've been together for over a year and he still hasn't said I love you, for instance. When I say it, he says thank you, which pretty much stings. I don't think it's that he doesn't love me.... I know he wouldn't talk about the future if he didn't. He's not that type. However, I'm dying here. I never thought I would need this sort of thing from a man, but I need to hear I love you or something along those lines. I need some expression/affirmation. At the same time, I don't want to pressure him. There could be a lot of reasons why he's not saying it, and I don't want to corner him or anything. Any suggestions? Should I just deal with it/get over it or try to bring up the subject in a way that doesn't make him feel obligated to say anything? I don't even know where to begin here, and I definitely don't want to push the envelope too hard.

I know exactly how you feel, I need to hear I love you. It just makes me feel special, and reassures me that I'm still cared about. If you really are right for each other, maybe you can just tell him how you feel, and let him know that it would be nice for him to express his feelings more.
