somedude81 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 When I started training I was about 135 pounds. So yes ectomorph. And how long did it take you to start building muscle mass?
Cypress25 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Haha, my ex said he followed a weight training program called "Scrawny to Brawny." Supposed to work really well for ectomorphs, for whom I have no sympathy since they can eat whatever they want and never gain weight. Lucky bastards. But I get it, guys don't want to be skinny.
Els Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Haha, my ex said he followed a weight training program called "Scrawny to Brawny." Hey, I think ectomorphs have it better than their endomorph friends, for sure. Being overweight in terms of a large belly, etc, is still generally seen as less attractive than being too skinny in men, though being too skinny is more 'problematic' for men than for women. I would looooove to be able to eat whatever I want without gaining weight, but I don't really envy them, since weight gain genuinely seems to be a huge problem for some of them. One of my relatives was about 5'10" and 140 lbs. He ate huge mountains of calories, took weight gain supplements.. nada. He definitely should have worked out more if he wanted muscle, but it's just a mystery to me that the human body could consume SO MUCH food and still not gain weight! And he worked a sedentary job too. And an ex of mine at 5'10" and 130-135 lbs, and the bf at 5'7" and 125 lbs who can lift almost double his weight and scarfs down literally 4 bowls of rice at each meal... oh brother. If there was any living proof that different people have vastly different metabolisms, it was those guys. That being said, SD's photos really don't look like an ectomorph. Or at least not the sort that I've seen. 160 lbs, or even 150, at 5'6", is a fair amount of weight. Aren't ectomorphs typically bone-skinny because of their blazing metabolism?
Els Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Somedude is not ectomorph. He looks endomorph. Eh, not sure about that. He definitely doesn't look OVERweight either. Is there not an in-between?
PlumPrincess Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Eh, not sure about that. He definitely doesn't look OVERweight either. Is there not an in-between? Ectomorph are skinny. He definitely is not one of them. I'd say he could lose some weight.
Cypress25 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Eh, not sure about that. He definitely doesn't look OVERweight either. Is there not an in-between? Of course there's an in-between, most people are not one pure type. Pure ecto, pure endo, pure meso...all very rare. Most people are a combination of two types. Somedude is probably a meso/endo, actually.

Can't comment on that (we'll probably have to wait for the experts ThaWholigan and olive, and perhaps tman if he feels like coming in ) but if that's the case, seems he might have been taking the wrong workout route all along. No wonder he says he's not getting results.

No wonder he says he's not getting results. , I'm far from an expert, I have only started training very recently. My knowledge comes from reading, knowing fitness experts and my dad who is super fit. I might be a mesomorph, because I am not very round, I seem to still have a large, broad frame. As well as being tall. I was just never an active child and it's only until recently I started learning everything I could about health and fitness. 2
fishtaco Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 How is it settling if you find someone that loves you for who you really are????? And when did love become equatable to dating someone simply good looking??? Who said Brad Pitt was automatically "better" and if you didn't score someone with his looks that you were "settling"????? It's not... You completely misunderstood my post. Re-read it if you want, and if you still don't get it, I'm willing to clarify. I'm too lazy to type out a long post right now.
olivec Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 And how long did it take you to start building muscle mass? at first not much because i knew nothing about nutrition or weight training other than what my friends were doing. it really wasn't until i got into my early 20's that i started to put on weight and actually keep it on. plus i just learn alot from trial and error which it what most young novice lifters learn. above all else just sticking to it and not giving up is very important. 1
somedude81 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Ectomorph are skinny. He definitely is not one of them. I'd say he could lose some weight. It is harder for ectomorphs to gain fat or muscle then either of the other types. And even though I'm not skinny, I'm certainly not overweight, nor will I ever be. And no, having a little bit of a gut, does not disqualify somebody from being an ectomorph.
Jane2011 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I'm going to argue that not all women wouldn't want to date a guy a foot and a half taller. I'm barely 5' and my SO is nearly 6'5". The only people who don't seem to realize that there's a foot and a half difference is us. Yeah, we look awkward together, but when you're short like me, everyone is taller. And when you're his height, everyone's shorter. So our take is that it really doesn't matter how ridiculous we look together. It's what's inside that matters. Most of our friends got tired of the height comments and jokes after the first week. I'm 5' and 5'11" for a guy is my limit. I could probably stretch that to 6' for a guy I really hit it off with (which would be right at one foot height difference), but it'd be in uncomfortable territory for me. I definitely wouldn't go 6'5", and I went so far as to cancel a date with a possible prospect at least in part because he was 6'2". I like 5'11" though, even though it's not comfortable holding hands. All the standing up stuff is awkward. Sex is not a problem, though, and that's all that matters to me anyway, lol, j/k.

I don't know, SD, ectomorphs apparently have blazing-fast mechanisms and so never have significant body fat, even without trying to keep themselves lean. You seem to be right in the middle of the spectrum (IMO, at least), which could be a good thing. But if you really want to do the bodybuilding thing I think you need to stop following the 'strict ectomorph' route, and implement cardio and other fat-burning routines. After all, you yourself say it didn't work for you. 1

If you wanna get your body into awesome shape you must put the work in to do so. People that are in great don't complain. You know why because they know the hard work is worth it.
Els Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Guh, did I really say 'mechanism' instead of 'metabolism'? Serves me right for working at 7am... 1
DonJuanCarlos Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 ... But I only see it as them having what I want and the only way to get it is to make them like me. I don't know how I can not care they think. Nah. The only way to get it is to think you'll get it. sounds cliche but pay attention. If you think it's easy it becomes easy. If you think it's hard it becomes hard. but thinking it's hard is easier than thinking it's easy. stop taking the easy route. It's what I did and all my dreams are coming true. wishing you all the best
2.50 a gallon Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 olivec It is obvious you don't know what you are talking about I was also the short skinny guy, until puberty hit, then all at once I began putting on muscle and weight. Starting at about age 16 I began working with weights, and slowly began to fill out, at age 17 I broke my right arm. Ten weeks later I had one arm looking like Popeye and the other like Olive Oil. I had just gotten back into my weight training when I broke my left collar bone, 3 months later I was back to skinny olive oil. Again once I was strong enough I again got back into weight training, alas, I broke my right ankle. Another set back, but I knew that if I had a doctor set it he would put me in a cast and it would take me months, so I tied my foot to the bed, then pulled back until the bone popped back into place and wrapped it up tightly with ace bandages. After about a week I was able to hobble around and go outside. And six weeks later it was close to being totallly healed. This was followed by another set back when I stepped on a broken pop bottle and severely cut my foot Finally about age 21 after moving out and getting situated I was able to get back into working out. I worked night, and upon getting home at 4 would work out for a good hour or more, have my protein drinks, raw egg and whey cocktails, banana splits, the whole nine yards. Nada. Nothing, in fact I began to lose weight, and the bigger problem I was always full of energy and developed a sleeping problem I never got tired. Upon seeing my doctor, he explained it this way, my magic time of gaining weight was over, I was an ectomorph and try as I might I would never be able to bulk up. As he explained it, everything I ate my body turned into energy, and when I consumed the Mr. Atlas protein drinks, banana splits, milk shakes, etc, all I was doing was filling my body with jet fuel. It was nothing for me to take 3 to 4 sandwiches, complete with lettuce, tomato and several slices of meat and cheese, two for lunch and one each for break time, and a six pack of candy bars, on the way home I always stopped off at at 31 Flavors for a double and sometimes a tripple dipper, and when I got home have a snack, followed by a larger meal for supper, and barely be able to maintain a weight between 130 to 140 pounds.
mortensorchid Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I stand at 5'10". One thing I cannot stand is meeting men who are shorter than me who try to tell me (and others) that they are taller than they actually are. I just brush it off when they say such things, they know the truth. And the truth is that I am taller than they are, and they are not blind, and they see it. Does it bother them? Questionable, depending on the person. But honestly, I think deep down it does bother the man to be with a taller woman. And yet, I wonder why it is that I see tall men with tiny women as well, isn't it the same principal?
Leopard Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 It's not always obsession, some people just prefer a certain height. There's nothing wrong with that.
LittlePrince Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 It's not always obsession, some people just prefer a certain height. There's nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with fetishes except the people who have them.
Leopard Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Nothing wrong with fetishes except the people who have them. Wow. Nice to know what kind of people are out there. Your sex life must be pretty dull. Yikes.
