In another thread I posted, Starla33 made the comment "Most dates from online will not go past the 1st date unfortunately."

That has been my experience as well, with few exceptions. Starla (and others), why is this? I personally believe Internet dating is largely a waste of time. I absolutely detest it.

In online dating the 1st date doesn't count as a 'date'. It's a stranger you have never met and have no idea whether you will like them in real life.

That's very different from going on a date with someone you had interacted with in real life beforehand.

I hate Internet dating, just flat out hate it. It is a multi million dollar industry, but is a waste of time for most people.

I met some good ones and some bad ones. If you screen people well in advance that helps a lot but if you hate it you should find other ways of meeting potential partners.

My last OLD date lasted 5 hours. Talking, lots of eye contact. We clicked. A long kiss good night. No second date, though I tried. Very frustrating.

Numbers mean nothing. Dates mean nothing. Makeouts mean nothing. Even if you manage to get to the sex part, it means nothing. I've given girls multiple orgasms, only to have them reject me afterwards lol.

All that stuff means a lot. But it's not enough. More is required. Plus, you might be dating the wrong girls.

Getting tired of this worn out phrase. lol It's not really an accurate representation of what's happening or....something that can't be helped.

You cannot help you wind up dating befor meeting them, then after it's over, only THAT phrase is uttered, which helps no one.

So, if the relationship is going well, you can say 'He is dating the RIGHT woman" but when it ends..."Oh, he is dating the wrong woman."

Marriage ends in divorce after 20 years..."Oh, he must've married the 'wrong woman'" lol

For some people online is the only way.

One must remember that, in OLD, attraction is clouded by the next 7 guys that pop up online right after your date. "Oh, I really liked him. He likes the color blue though". Also, "he didn't answer one of my questions correctly." Next...

It has worked for many people (me included). But it takes a lot of time, patience, perseverance, and a very thick skin.

In all, I "met" over fifty guys through online dating. NOTE: I did not say I DATED 50 guys because only two or three of those fifty ended up in second dates. I probably had sex with 25% of them before I found the one.

When I chose to use that hackneyed phrase, I was mostly responding to Bob Funk's assertion that he's "given girls multiple orgasms, only to have them reject (him) afterwards."

If this is a pattern, (it evidently has happened more than once) he is either really sending out some big red flags, or picking a particular "type" of girl - who is comfortable having sexual encounters with guys they have no intention of seeing afterwards. Or, not bothering to get to know a girl before giving her multiple orgasms.

Bob Funk aside, though, whether you are tired of the phrase or not, it plays a big role in what goes on in the search for a partner and, yes, even in many marriages that end up in divorce.

I was attracted to the "wrong" type of man, one that would never be able to be a good partner for me. My first husband was one of them. It took a lot of growing up before I realized this and acknowledged the red flags that these guys showed from the beginning.

You had sex with 25% of the 50 or 25% of the two or three? And if the fifty, why no 2nd date with most?

I've gotten 6 dates online and the 1st 3 didn't go past 1 date, the second 2 went to 3 and the last one I could of got a second date but I didn't puruse her.

lol, how would one go about having sex with 25% of 2 or 3 people? :o:laugh:

(sorry, nothing constructive to add as I don't OLD)

Of the 50 guys, I probably slept with 15 of them - on the first date.

No second date because there was not enough common interests...

I predict that now someone's going to try to shame you. Hope I'm wrong.

Well, that's what they'd do if a man admitted the same thing.

Meh - doesn't matter to me...

I acknowledge that my lack of self-worth had me opening my legs - over and over - in vain attempts of acceptance.

Shame is the least of my worries.

I heard that online dating is a numbers game...If that's the case its like sales cold calling. You are really setting yourself for many failures before you close that one deal. Even if you get a lot of dates online, like cold calling you get a lot of duds! IMHO online is a lot of wasted time. But I do it because its a backup to my normal dating routine of meeting people face to face. Just like cold calling, you have to do that once in a while to generate business.

This is exactly how I see it. The most important thing about OLD is not to get your hopes up. Be positive, but know the odds are against you. Don't even think for a minute you have anything going until you've been out several times.

If you obsess about her being 'the one' too early on, you'll get jaded and burnt out if it doesn't work, or she starts playing games. Just move along. "Well, I had fun. She's nice. etc. but time will tell" Don't think too much. It's best to just treat her as a friend. Nothing more, whatsoever, early on.

WOW...I hope your being sarcastic? If not I sadden that you feel this way. This just proves that majority of men online are scum? I just don't know that. But I have a good friend who's online all the time and I suspect that he does the same thing...Sleeps around!

Fitchick, guys usually get pat on the back if they sleep around. But if a woman does it she'll usually called a Slut/whore and its usually from other women...Pretty sad!
