ntheyez Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Have any of you ever had a parent(s) tell you that someone wasn't good for you.. and then it turns out that they were right? 1
whichwayisup Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Yes, I think everbody has. The thing is, when a parent tells you no, don't do that (or see that person) it just makes you want to go ahead and do whatever, even if you know deep down it's wrong or that person isn't right for you. Immature, yes! But totally normal reaction. What happened? 1
SarahRose Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Yes of course. Parents usually are looking out for your best interests and they aren't blinded by lust like the involved parties are. 1
Philosoraptor Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 My goodness yes. My mother told me early on that she wasn't going to make me happy in the long run. Like was said above, for some reason you don't want to believe it and prove them wrong. I now trust my mother's opinion and take a step back and examine what was said. It helps me get out of that "honeymoon" feeling and see things with clear eyes. It's never anything much that she offers. Just a "have you noticed her reaction when you do or say blah blah blah".
Emilia Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Yes, my mother told me once that a specific guy wouldn't be good for me but I knew that already too, that was the point Otherwise I'm not in the habbit of taking my dates to meet my mother usually.
carhill Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Yes, my mother was spot on in regards to two specific ladies I invested a lot in. God rest her soul.
Author ntheyez Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Goodness! I guess our parents have been through so much more than we know and so much more than they are willing to tell us. She knows that its the same story different characters. My mom just told me recently that she dislikes my now husband. I never asked her why because I already know.

pink_sugar Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Of course, everyone does! I wish I had taken certain advice from my dad, but I never agreed with how he felt about my husband. He has always treated me well.
Michael Johnson Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Yes my ex girlfriend my mom told me she thought who was up to no good. Turns out she was right. When I was around 12 I knew the guy she used to be with was no good, but didn't say anything because I knew it was none of my business. Family is everything.
