yongyong Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Basically, I am an average shy person. Like majority of people, I don't like doing something in front of public. I don't have a problem approaching women at the bar though (no I don't get a help from alcohol) Last night, I went out by myself to the bar and club. I approached about 10 women and I talked with few of them and danced with few of them. It's hard for me to strike up the conversation in public places like grocery store and coffee shops because of public eyes and risks involved with it. When I approach someone, it goes very well if I click well with that person. (especially when the person responds like 'lighting up the christmas tree' If the person just gives me a simple answer and doesn't seem interested, I get pressured to change the mood and I usually mess it up. I sometimes get called as a player. Women sometimes laugh when I tell them 'actually I am shy' on our first date. It sounds like I want to take acting class just to get women. It is not. I have no intention to fake myself. I want to be 'better myself' I want to be a confident and charismatic person to whomever I meet (guys, girls, clients, co-workers, bosses etc) I am sure you've met a person who exudes this aurora of charisma from the back of their head (kind of like Jesus appearing) even though they were just talking in a calm manner OR they were just walking in through the door. That's what I am aiming for. This would be an intense emotional challenge. I think I will get goose bumps if I see myself acting in the mirror I hope it will help me with my voice tone, facial expression and English (it's my 2nd language) Anyone with Acting Class experience? Have you met a person who had a job as an actor/actress? Did they convey different character? (BTW, I am looking at this private studio. it's 5 months program, 2 hours of 22 sessions for $600)
FitChick Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I wonder if you'd be better off joining Toastmasters International. Perhaps someone on the forum is a member.

Warren Buffett used to be very shy and a horrible public speaker before he took this class, seems to have worked for him. I wonder if you'd be better off joining Toastmasters International.
