Philosoraptor Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 It's been a bit more than 5 years since I've done a cold approach and after today I can see I need a bit of work. I apparently have no issue using my charm or walking up to a stranger and starting a conversation... I just didn't close the deal. As I was being my normal witty self I started to think that I have no idea how old these ladies are. It seems like most ladies in my age group could be anywhere from young teenagers to older women. I'm caught wondering if I'm about to ask a child out because she looks like she's over 21. So I just kinda end the conversation and continue on my way. Guess I need to find a place where I can guarantee that the women are in fact adults? Blah I feel like I missed a few good one's today but I might have also missed jail time... so I gotta look on the bright side.
Oxy Moronovich Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 There's an easy way around this. If you're not sure a woman is underage ask her for her phone number anyway. After she gives it to you, then ask, "Listen, I'm not really into minors. So I was wondering, are you over 18? Because you look 16." This always works to my advantage. All women love to be told they look younger than they really are. Hell, it's the same with men too.
EasyHeart Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Meh. Unless her dad comes after you, does it really matter? It's just a date.
fortyninethousand322 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 My sister always makes fun of me and my brother when we say some girl is cute and it turns out she's a high schooler (my sister is a senior in high school). My attitude about is who cares. As long as you cover yourself legally it's fine. The legal consent laws are stupid anyway. It's one thing to protect a 12 year old from predators but it's totally different when someone is a few months from 17 (especially when they look and dress older than that).
Disenchantedly Yours Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I am personally turned off by men that make "jail bait" jokes. I know that some men will make fun of me for this, or say something is wrong with me for this, but I'm sorry, making jokes about "jail bait", isn't cool. And it's kind of gross. Am I saying this guy is a pedo? No. But it's really strange to me and gross. Perhaps I'm better at telling ages, but more times then not, you can tell the difference between someone that is still in high school vs someone that isn't. And frankly, I'm creepd out by men that are perpetually turned on or attracted to girls in high school. Women don't seem to have this issue as much as men do. It's baffeling. It makes me wonder about men. If I see a young high school guy I might say "aww, what a cutie", but I am not turned on by him or have a desire to talk to him. If you can't figure out the age of the person you are talking to...that is kind of skeevy. 1
ThaWholigan Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 To be fair, a LOT of girls look older nowadays. Do you know how many times I saw a girl from behind or the side and was like "WOAHH", only to see her face and be like "****, she's like 14", and feel dirty.... Some girls really do look older nowadays, I don't know what it is they're eating, but they're hitting puberty a little too quickly. Very worrying.

But I'd prefer someone between the ages of 20 and 27. Sometimes, a girl who's 17 or 18 can pass for 20. Especially at night and if they're wearing makeup. It's not like I'm saying an 16 year old girl could pass for 40 that's insane. But on the margins it's totally possible. When I was 16 I passed for 25 so...

Yeah and like I said, looking like you're 20 when you're 16-18 is fairly easy (which is how so many people get around being carded for underage drinking). I'm 24 it would totally ok to date a girl who was 20. If I see a girl who looks like she's 20 what am I supposed to do?
Jane2011 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I was at a Starbucks a few days ago, and a man approached me with this line: "Are you my blind date?" And I was like "What?" He then put on this "I'm just joking face" and said, "No, no, I'm just kidding. Thought I'd make you laugh. I'm just waiting for a friend..." I looked baffled for a moment, then said, "Oh, are you waiting to meet like an Internet date here and thought I was her?" He said, "No, no, I'm waiting for a guy friend. Just thought I'd make you laugh." Then we started talking. He slyly worked in asking how old I was. I totally forget how exactly he worked it in, or else I'd tell you. But it was something like ..."...you're all of 25 years old..." And I just said nothing. Then he said, "So how old are you?"

Well, there are a lot of hormones in foods now that make girls develop to early. My cousin's 7 year old daughter started having body odor and when she went to the doctor to see what was going on, the doctor told her to stop feeding her meat that wasn't heavily regulated and natural, along with the milk. My cousin started going organic and natural on these things and the body odor went away. But I really just don't get it. Because 14 year old girls may be as tall as an adult, may even have big boobs, but they aren't anywhere near as filled out. They are still growing. A young guy may be as tall as an adult, he may even have broad shoulders, but you can still tell he's a boy.

I think about how I relate to teenage boys at my age and even when they look more mature, I just can't fathom up any attraction. They still look young and inexperienced. I can't see how a man could be attracted to a teenage girl even if she has a more mature body. But that's just me. I certainly can see saying , "oh that teen boy/girl is cute". Objectively acknowledging features. Like you could easily with little kids. But I don't get talking to and feeling attraction for. Which is why I avoid men that make jailbait jokes or are too fixated on teenagers. I suspect this will save me from a lot anyway.
Author Philosoraptor Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 To be fair, a LOT of girls look older nowadays. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. While you can figure things out quickly when talking to them, they don't always look their age. Heck, I look like I'm a teenager anyways even though I'm 25. I've got a younger sister who is 13. She looks and dresses like an adult and in many cases could probably pull of being an "adult" more than I could. I guess I need to try to find a place where I can be sure the women are women and not in that 16-17 year old range. I think I'll start looking for college logos or something that would identify them as adults before approaching someone that I'm just not sure about.

I remember back in high school a lot of people had college sweatshirts or t-shirts that they bought when they were on college tours or maybe they had a sibling who went to that school.
FitChick Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I guess I need to try to find a place where I can be sure the women are women and not in that 16-17 year old range. They can't go into bars.
Author Philosoraptor Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 They can't go into bars. Sure they can with the right connections... but I'm not into the bar scene myself anyways. I think I'll just have to work age into the conversation and ask questions that will give me the clues necessary to take an educated guess. I don't remember the cold approach being so difficult before but I was a kid the last time I had to do it, so these issues really were not there.
