I met his parents, but we aren't exclusive

Does it seem odd that he'd invite me to have dinner with his parents when we aren't even officially a couple?

I'm the kind of girl your parents would want you to bring home, and I'm starting to think this is why he brought me. He's mentioned that his dad makes comments about him not being married.

What do you think? Is it possible that meeting his parents wasn't a big deal to him? I'm not sure if this is significant to most guys or not.

It was a big deal to him, but maybe not in regards to you.

How long have you two dated, and how old are you two.

Where do you live, where do your parents come from ?

Did he introduce you as a friend?

Maybe bringing girls home isn't a particularly big thing to him or he's putting on a front just to get his dad off his back.

Meeting the parents is one of those things that is only as important as the parties involved make it. My parents have met guys I wasn't serious about or exclusive with. That wasn't a big deal. When I'm serious about a guy, it's a bigger deal for him to meet my parents and see my family-life.

It just can go either way. I mean, if you're not even exclusive, then don't read into it, it could be like taking any friend with him. If you are in a serious relationship, then I think it's more meaningful cause it's like "hey here is another part of my life I'd like you to be a part of"

Great.

We’ve dated for less than 2 months. We’re 33 (me) and 38. We’re not from a very conservative culture, if that’s what you’re asking.

Did he introduce you as a friend?

He introduced me by my name, but his parents know we aren't just friends. He held my hand and put his arm around me during the evening with them.

I was hoping it was a a bigger deal than it probably was. :(

He's 38 and he's bringing you to his parents house? That means he sees wife potential in you. He wanted to get his parents opinion of you before he decides he wants to make the relationship exclusive.

Really???? LOL

It might mean something, it might not. You need to ask HIM! Not us! We have no idea what's on his mind! And if you want the relationship to be exclusive, then TELL HIM, rather than trying to find hidden meanings in whatever he does!

Yea, really.

Guy is almost 40, parents are pestering him about getting a wife, and probably having kids, and he brings her home? 100% correct I am!

No guy, at that age, will bring a woman to his parents house unless he sees long-term potential. He likes her and now wants his parents opinion of her. If they say she is good, then you watch, he will ask her to be exclusive with him.

I have no idea how to ask this and telling him I want the relationship to be exclusive seems like a bad idea (and not really my style).

I was just hoping for something in the middle of means nothing and means he sees marriage potential.

I know he knows that I'm marriage material, but that doesn't mean he wants to marry me. I'm not even sure he wants a relationship with me!

make me believe

We can't tell you what it means, but if you've been dating less than 2 months (so like 6 weeks?) I think you're getting too ahead of yourself with the analyzing and hoping. At this point you are still getting to know him and evaluating him according to what YOU want. Not looking for "signs" and hoping he secretly means x when he does y.

Anyway, my parents have met lots of guys over the years between myself and my two sisters. lol. Some were serious, some were not. For me, meeting the parents is not a huge deal. I know for some people it's a big step, but I doubt at less than 2 months that it's a big step for him. He probably comes from a casual, laid back family and doesn't read too much into bringing you over to hang out with them.

Do you know what he is looking for overall? Whether he is looking for an exclusive relationship in general or just "having fun"? It's important to get these things sorted out before you get attached..... not saying you should be exclusive after a few wks, but you don't want to waste your time on someone who has no interest in a serious relationship EVER.

Are the two of you seeing others. If the two of you are dating other people then there is no exclusivity.

Are you seeing other men?

Just ask if he is dating other women. How hard can that be?

This is crucial!!
