He is coming from farther away so I want to not be rude and make it short and boring, but I figure a cheaper thing is for the best

also I am always skeptical in inviting people to my place before getting to know them a bit, I at least have a male roommate and I would ofcourse check if he was there to ensure safety.

I suggested perhaps going for a walk after meeting in a public place and seeing where it goes from there

I don't like eating with people I just meet. It makes me feel weird... So first dates never involve a meal for me. Maybe a drink or some ice cream or something

ensure your safety? do you have common sense? are you inviting someone who looks like a drug dealer off of craigslist?

yeah I think he could be a rapist with a paid phone. you should go to public places that have security cams. Bring some self defense kits and talk about you have a cop friend during a conversation...

geez women these days......

Right? Why shouldn't she invite a strange man over to her home. Silly girls.

OP there's probably a few outdoor events going on this weekend if that's when your date is. There's all kind of things to do on a first date, it just depends on the two people involved and their preferences.

Why would you even consider him coming to your place on the first date.? He's coming from far away, he should get a hotel or drive home. If you hit it off, and you find out he's not nuts, then have him over down the road.

Do you live in a big city or small town? Are there places where tourists like to go?

He's coming to your house to pick you up or are you meeting at a bar / restaurant?

it's not ridiculously far, he can drive home at the end easily. Like an hour

meeting at a place, I also like to have my car handy just in case.

some may say I am too careful, but seriously, I don't want my parents at my funeral wondering why I wouldn't be careful when meeting up with someone I met online.

ya, I will look stuff up. I was thinking a nice walk and maybe a movie at my place if I feel safe and my roommate is there.

if not, I will look into thursday night stuff. We both don't like bars, but maybe a lounge

I think a good first date would be to sit and read threads on LS together.

haha, one guy asked if our first date could be trolling internet forums while intoxicated. It was probably the best idea I have ever heard

I never understood the idea of a movie early on in dating. For me, it is about talking to and learning about another person while a movie is just sitting there and not interacting with one another.

I'm a foodie so for me, food is an integral part of a first date; if they share, if they enjoy, table manners, etc...

It also depends where you are, there aren't a whole lot of outdoor events taking place in some places just yet. In another month there's going to be all kinds of things going on. Anyhow, a lounge sounds good IMO. Is there a beach or lake not too far, that's always a nice walk. Here there's a local church that has friday nite bingo where beer is served, it draws a pretty good crowd for people watching. Kareoki is always good for a few laughs.

I hate bowling almost as much as I hate putt-putt.

Ya but there is nothing I would want anyone to spend money on. I am checking right now where things close by that are good places to stroll through close and stuff

Same thing - you are still sitting next to someone who is practically a stranger and NOT TALKING to each other...

No I am not saying that it is a good idea but it is a better idea than staying in the house.
