Most of the couples I know met through friends, school or work. That is the "old fashioned way" to me. I don't think in the pre-internet days most couples were meeting in grocery stores, coffee shops or other random public places.

I have only approached one guy and that was online, but I messed that up. Other than that guys approach me every now and then or I have met a guy through a friend. I thought online dating these day is a more common way for men to approach women than in person. I was on match.com and only found one guy that I was remotely interested in. A lot of guys are just looking to get laid, just browsing, or they have red flags in their profiles.
